God is not a celestial maid to do everything we want him to. For so long we have been telling God to get out of our lives and once he abliges us we get angry. Death is a result of sin not God. check out what my church has to say about this. http://www.newspring.cc/series/fiveliesofthedevil-1

Metallica's members are so faithful christians | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/28/10

In fact no knows that it's a wonderful amazing song Of Metallica. So it as a deep meaning that it ain't easy to be understood. This song shows how Metallica r faithful guy as they refer to people who believe in other Gods with ignoring the Only being God.So u should notice when James said ("just decide what u believe") & ('follow the God that failed")

Oh my god..You guys.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/12/09

Everyone is talking about God and religion but a whole part has to do with his dad who left him and his mother and after, his mom died from cancer.
"Find your peace
Find your say
Find the smooth road on your way
Trust you gave
A child to save
Left you cold and him in grave"
This, however, explains how his dad left them behind and the sentence "Broken is the promise" also refers to his dad. People talking about God either are dyslectic/foreign with a lack of English understanding. Although the death of his mother had to do with their religion it doesn't say the whole song is about that and that alone.

Against Religion | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/17/09

I think that this is less of an attack on God and more of an attack on religion. James was a Christian Scientist, and both of his parents died of cancer when he was young because they didn't believe in modern medicine. So you can understand his ill feelings towards religion.

I'm allergic to religion. | Reviewer: Ugh | 6/2/09

You guys are making me throw up. I'm allergic to religion! And it was a surprise attack, too. I came here, looking up lyrics to a good Metallica song, and I find a bunch of posts filled to the brim with religious crap. Come ON. Take this to a Bible forum. No one cares. Well, no one who matters cares.

wtf?guy | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/24/09

dont be stupid! james grow up with an christian family (mother) and she belived that god heals every wound, so his mother didnt want medicine or any help with cancer, and waited to god wanna help her, and this song is, the god that failed? she is dead right? yeah!!

Re: James | Reviewer: Leftos | 4/8/09

Actually James is an atheist i believe. This song was written for the death of his mother who died of cancer always believing God would save her despite Jame's "discouraging lies" i.e. medicine, hence "broken is the promise" i.e. his mother's faith with no answer from the "God that failed". Cancer, "it feeds, it grows" of his mother and her death are also the themes of the song "Until it sleeps" with the exact same meaning. But i think James is an atheist; just look at "Leper Messiah"

The fact that your still living and breathing each day is a blessing ... this world isnt any big bang ... look around you how are you able to say the seasons and animals and the beauty of this world arnt by god ...

James | Reviewer: is | 1/5/09

I heard that james hetfield made this song because of how he was brought up. I think hes a catholic, so he actually is religious, but i think he wrote this song to show how (religiously) he was brought up. Im might be, and probably am wrong... Anyone want to back me up on that?

fuck religion | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/27/08

fuck religion is all i have to say, it has brought nothing but bad times to this world, countless wars fought over religion, and arrgence telling others that their beliefs are wrong. fuck religion, its the worst drug on this world

get ur bilbe crap of the net | Reviewer: ian | 8/11/08

i am posting a reponse to the anonymous writer on 3/26/2008 you are so fucking up the bible bashing ass of religion that you have failed to comprehend what it is that this song is trying to convey unlike david who wrote on 8/4/2008 and completely comprehended the authors intentions with this song

james' mother | Reviewer: David | 8/4/08

i would imagine this song is about james' mother who died of cancer
she wouldn't accept medicine, she had complete faith in god to keep her alive, so in james' eyes our god is 'the god that failed'
thats what i think why he wrote the song and the theme for the song, the message must be to not put your life in your gods hands

Humans are the only creation of God that is made on God's image and essense. Image means that humans reflect God and essense means that humans are Godlike. The latter means that humans are destined to return to God and become one and equal inside Him. That is why people have free will. I said "return" because humans fell from God's grace because they exercised their Godlike free will to dethrone God instead of co-exist with Him. We are "gods" by God's grace and so we should wake up and return "home" instead of further destroy ourselves by eternal isolation from God (the latter isolation is the actual Hell). As for the lyrics or various Rock groups I have to say that smell strange... Don't forget that this world with humans living having fallen from Grace is the kingdom of Devil so he roams as Metallica would say. Beware of what you sing, it might come to you. Nietszhe said that when you look as Chaos, then Chaos looks back at you.

The Religious Person | Reviewer: Ryan | 1/17/08

I'm posting a comment to the anonymous writer (11/24/07) who spoke about man having free will and that mankind should not blame god for the bad things that happen. This is all cool, I dont go to church, but I have no problem with christianity. In fact, I dont care what people believe, because everyone has the own ideas about spirituality and morals. I know I'll probably be contradicted on this point as well, but the point is people who lived before the age of christianity knew that murder and rape etc. were wrong, and understood right and wrong. The only thing I have a problem with is anybody else telling me or others that they're beliefs are wrong. As for the coment about medicine and that man cant take credit for medicine because God gave them the materials to dot it- that means that man cant be blamed for making weapons of any sought because God made those materials to. And if God gave man free will, why do christians protest against abortion and stem cell research?? Arent we still acting in our own will?

The woman with the issue of blood spent 12 years in that condition...and the Bible says that she spent all that she had on Physician's and was the none the better...yet when she heard of Jesus she knew if she would be able to touch him she would be healed....when she touched the hem of his garment...she was made whole..and it was the touch of faith that healed her...I'm sorry for James and his situation with his mother..yet Christian science does not line up with the teachings of the Bible...one must be born again in order to lay hold of the promises of God in the Bible. As one mentioned up above..God has givin us free will...and he says that there is death and life in front of us...that we are to choose life. Medicine is not wrong...neither is faith in God...But you cannot expect God to do answer your prayers...when you have not made a commitment to serve him through his Son, Jesus Christ.
