Hetfiels is arguably one of the best rhythm guitarists that ever lived, and also one of the greatest metal composers that ever lived. Kirk Hammet has composed very little compared to Het. You guys think you're so fucking cutting edge by saying that metallica died, but every metal band in the world will agree that the Black Album is a great album. Sure, its not Master of Puppets or And Justice, but its still fucking heavy. In addition, the album went 14x platinum, a feat that is considered legendary by any musician. Think about it, a metal album that went 14x platinum....its fucking insane! No other metal band in the world will ever replicate that feat. Metallica basically introduced the whole fucking world to metal. Just because it sold alot doesnt mean the music is compromised. Its simply not thrash anymore. And besides, Metallica could have realeased another thrash album if they wanted, and it still would have sold as much.
