Hmm....here's my interpretation... | Reviewer: NinjaCat4 | 9/1/09

My interpretation if it hasn't already been said...someone good is inside you and while you're covering it up, that voice who says "let me out" is angry and is trying to come back out. In a good way. Just the way I see it since it seems to speak to ppl....and it is addicting. lol It has a way of saying things that mean somethin...but again, I could be wrong because songs usually say one thing but really mean the other...that and the same with alot of song's videos...but yeah that's what I think.

my interpretation | Reviewer: Jenia | 8/24/09

as a former heroin addict, i understand this song is about heroin and how it takes over the addicts life. heroin is inside the person and it becomes the only thing in his life ("i'm your life... they betray, i"m your only true friend now). heroin makes the addict do terrible things like theft, robbery, housebreaking etc. an addict will do everything to get heroin ("You, You’re my mask
You’re the one who’s blamed
Do, Do my work
Do my dirty work, scapegoat...I’m your eyes when you must steal")

Hungover at the time? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/22/09

i heard this song was about booze and how people screw up or are miserable because of alcohol, you know the saying "blame it on the booze"? like every song it lets you be about however you intepret it, i guess.

A little Help | Reviewer: J0kerking | 8/14/09

This song helped me out to get a little bit of revenge. See my girlfriend decided to go off and break my heart for fun then try and get me back. So whenever I got the chance I would play this song and make sure she heard "Im Your Hate When You Want Love" Haha Im so mean

Wow! | Reviewer: BPD123 | 8/9/09

...I suffer from Borderline Personality Dosorder - and I swear to God, when I PMS, for example, I BLAST this song and go for a drive. It is the only song, I feel, that "understands" me. It is at these vulnerable points that the evil within me controls me ... it's there, in all of us...it just rears it's ugly head at some points more than others in our lives ...

What the song means | Reviewer: Jasmine | 8/6/09

Based off a book called Magic by Anthony Hopkins. Its about a guy who has schizophrenia and the voice talks to him at first being friendly (less intensely effcted by the disease) but by the end of the song he gets taken over by the disease and the voice turns nasty and tells him he no longer cares " And i no longer care..."

and i guess you can say Sad But True!

just a thought | Reviewer: juan | 7/7/09

The song sad but true is a song that has meaning and I truth behind it. Many people think that this song is about religion drugs mental disorders it may be but the truth is that only the person that wrote it knows. What think is that some of you people were right I think that it may be about the evil that is inside all of us and how it can take over all of us. I also think that its our mind because when you do something wrong you get blamed for it not your mind your contious is the one telling you two do something it tells you what's wrong and what's right but in the end your the one who deals with what happens.this is also where the mental illness come in some people can't control there emotions and thoughts and they can't help what they do and when its done they can't help but blame the person inside of them. It may be about drug because from experience once you get hooked on a drug that's the only thing that you want its the thing that will be with you whenever you want and need it but it also takes over you when you least expect it and again like the devil it takes over people when there at their weakest it like a coward hiding inside of you and only comes out when your vulnerable. Drugs take over you till you get to a point where you just can't live without them but in the end all the do is hurt you.
This is just a thought of what the meaning of this song might be.many people what to know the truth but Then again some mysteries are better left unsaid.

Scary...But it still rocks! | Reviewer: Kai de Guzman | 6/4/09

I agree with anthony ebrhem. I read the lyrics just now and it's true, it's clear that there's evil in all of us. Heck, the last part scared me:
"I’m inside open your eyes
I’m you

Sad but true"

But still, Metallica rocks! XD

this song is clearly about... | Reviewer: anthony ebrhem | 6/1/09

This song is about the devil in all of us.. we blame everything around us for being evil and want to fix everything but dont think twice about fixing ourselves. because in my opinion, the true antichrist is inside US but we dont realize it. this song is brilliant. James Is Metal God.

my interpretation | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/25/09

after reading all of them, i came up with my own way of seeing it, its some guy who is going through some really bad times, doing drugs, stealing, getting caught by cops, but he doesn't realize how bad it is, and all these things are going through his head of all the bad things in the song. " Hate, I’m your hate
I’m your hate when you want love" and he finally realizes that its actually him doing all the bad things to himself at the end "I’m inside open your eyes
I’m you"

Dissociation/Psychosis/Self-Hatred | Reviewer: Anonymice Murine | 5/25/09

Those commenting this song is about drugs or religion need to read the lyrics again and listen to the song.

The song is clearly about someone suffering a very severe mental illness of some kind. Most likely to be dissociative identity disorder (which used to be called Multiple Personality Disorder) - clues to the dissociation include lines like "I’m your pain when you can’t feel" - and there are definate themes of guilt, shame and self-hatred that often co-exist with many mental illnesses.

It's about a nutcase :P | Reviewer: Big J | 5/23/09

As its been said before, this song is about multiple identity disorder and/or schizophrenia, where the singing is from the point of view of the evil identity of the person. All of the lyrics add up: "You're my mask, you're my cover, my shelter. You, You're my mask, your the one whose blamed."
"I'm inside, open your eyes....I'm you!"

My interpretation (just a thought) | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/10/09

I think this song could be about a person taking advantage of someone else. In the beginning, the person who is taking advantage of the other wants them to feel like they care "I'm the one who cares". The person wants the other to only trust him and alienate the other from the rest of the world "I’m your only true friend now. They, They’ll betray. I’m forever there". Eventually, the person has complete control over the other and gets them to do whatever they want "Do my dirty work, scapegoat". If the other resists, he uses the excuse that "Hey, I’m your life. I’m the one who took you there". In the end, only the person who got taken advantage of has to "Pay the price".

It's not drugs or religion... | Reviewer: Allen | 5/8/09

It's about dissociative identity disorder and schizophrenia. The singer is singing from the point of view of the "evil" personality. You can tell, "do my dirty deeds, scapegoat." The last line really seals the deal: "I'm you."
