The dummy gives orders to the man, and tells him to kill people, to which the ventriliquist obliges. When the dummy tells him to kill the woman he loves, however, he instead kills himself. The song was written to explain how people feel when drinking and how the drinking feels when it's in you. At first alcohol is your scapegoat and then it flips the switch on you.
