On an emotional level | Reviewer: Alex | 8/5/09

I don't think this song is totally about physical pain. I think it has alot to do with emotional or mental pain as well. As if someone was trapped in their tortured mind, unable to escape the pain of what they've been through, war or otherwise.

Like they are missing their limbs and unable to move away from the source of their pain. The want to "scream" and reach out but the silence and pain in their life stops them.

I think it also references leaving hardship and pain behind but still having that depression lingering.

As for the landmine, I think that is a reference to the source of all of the pain.

Just my 2 cents. Maybe i'm totally off. Idk. That's what i get out of this song though.

one is a perfect blend of two types of rock and pulls them both off, alot of people i know describe the type of music they like as "the first half of One" i personally think the whole song is amazing and think mettallica are awsome!!!!!

One is simply a musical fireball which demolishes everything in her way, including yourself. It did to me at least. I listen to it for the first time when i was 11, and i just couldn't belive my ears. This was a masterpiece like it has never been written before. You don't loosen up until the last note is complete.

Best song in this world.

METALLICA 4EVER!!!

peace...

Music is about the feel. Who gives a shit if it has amazing solos or not. Look at Rammstein, they hardly use complex solos in their work, yet it is still good to listen to. The Who didn't use blazing guitar solos either, does that make them suck? It's about the music as a whole, and what fits for the song. You can't put Raining Blood's solo(Slayer) into a Bob Marley song.

One is my number one fav song by Metallica. love it, it's what got me into Metallica. Metallica ROCKS!!!!!

and miguel, no, they should not get rappers involved because is is for cum guzzling wannabe gangster cunts. do not disrespect Metalliac by bringing rap into something about them.

Metallica is Legend | Reviewer: Miguel | 3/30/09

Metallica is one of the best rock bands, to me, they are the theme song of my life. i started to listen to them 7 years ago. i like one, st. anger. sad but true, feul, and all nightmare long. i still wait for more. might i suggest that they should be like linkin park, work with rappers. that would make metallica known to hip hop listeners. all n all god bless metallicaaaa!!!!!

coma | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/15/09

As i understand the lyrics to this song
I get that they are written refering to someone who is in bed in the middle of a coma, he lost all of his limbs thanks to a land mine, he is connected to machines that feed him and help his blood flow

Origins | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/12/09

OK this has just turned into an arguement. The song's lyrics are inspired by the book "Johnny Got His Gun" in which a soldier wakes up in hospital to find a landmine has destoyed his arms, legs, ears, eyes, mouth and nose and he is a prisoner in his own body. He attempts to communicate by banging his head against his pillow and eventually forms a bond with a nurse. He wishes to be taken around the world in a glass case to display the horrors of war. The book is certainly anti-war even if the song isnt. The solo is pretty amazing but I've heard better (Eruption by Van Halen). Now stop arguin and enjoy the song.

"One" of the best Songs | Reviewer: Michael | 1/27/09

One is an awesome Song.
When u say it's not a big hit that because fans thought Metallica is selling them self out, because it was the very first song they made a video for it.

Because of that song i became a Metallica Fan.

johhny got his gun | Reviewer: dominos | 1/27/09

its a great song, killer classec. these new age emo kids need to know their roots. theres 15yr old kids sitting at home somwhere that can cover the solo quite well. but nonthe less, the musicle aspect of the song reflected the theme of the lyrics beautifuly. representing a battle during war gunfire and wut not. the book is anti-war. the narrator is deffinatly clear on that. but its not so clear in the song. doesnt mention anywhere that he wants to be paraded around in a glass case to show the world wut war does. and that fighting is for fools. nope, just that the guy was very unlucky and found a pissed off land mine and it f***ed his world up and now wishes to die. ELG

big hit??? | Reviewer: metallica fan | 1/15/09

not that i disagree this is an amazing song its gt a gud meanin behind it nd that but how can ppl say it was a big hit when it only gt 2 29 in the charts dnt believe me luk it up ur self on the metallica site but 2 b fair it shud ov gt alot higher in the charts

Anti-war | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/14/09

You've got to be stupid to think this song isn't a protest of war. This song was written for a soldier who lost all of his limbs, and for what? What did it accomplish? Now all he can do is lay in bed and beg for the sweet release of death.

And justice.. For all... | Reviewer: Calltoarms(Anti-anonymous) | 1/9/09

This is the FUCKING 80's people, i don't suck Metallica's dick or anything like that but of course this is a great song, not the best solo ever but from this to KIRK hammet being an embarrassment, you gotta be a egomaniac Dave Mustaine's dick sucker. The video is what it is, original, classic, it could been much better, but like i said that was in the 80's and for metal bands was a little harder than it is now for metal bands.

pure love | Reviewer: korey | 12/29/08

this song is large it just shows that even rock stars have feeling i dont see why not many people like this sorta music seeing as metallica made every new rock band who they are today as in linkin park, rolin stones and no matter what people say this tune kicks f***ing ass XX METALLICA ROCKS XX 0 0
