Not Deep? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/12/07

For those of you who have stated that the song is not deep or does not have true meaning, I encourage you to pick up a copy of Johnny Got His Gun and read it. If you wish to stay ignorant, please do so, MTV needs new viewers.

ONE | Reviewer: WALTER | 9/7/07

this is the best song ever!!!!! the classic of classics!! and it is true this song is addicted

Better than the source material | Reviewer: Darnell | 8/30/07

The song is about a book Hetfield read (called Johnny Got His Gun) It is basicly him telling what happens in the book. So it isn't as deep as you may think.

What does the originality of the story have to do with how "deep" the song is?

Anyway, the song is better and more effective than either the book or the movie of "Johnny Got His Gun". The movie is an allegory about the Hollywood blacklist (Dalton Trumbo was a blacklisted screenwriter and the movie reflects his feelings of impotence during the blacklist period), which limits its scope, but this song opens the story wide open, making it both personal and universal.

Even rappers love this song | Reviewer: J | 8/28/07

I am a huge hip hop fan, and African American. And I love this song, it's a great classic. Truly heart drenching and geniously written. I think this is an incredible song.
Much Respect

The MasterPiece.... | Reviewer: PYK | 8/23/07

Hrm | Reviewer: Matt | 8/20/07

The song is about a book Hetfield read (called Johnny Got His Gun) It is basicly him telling what happens in the book. So it isn't as deep as you may think.

The book review says:
"A World War I-era American soldier in a hospital realizes that he was hit by an artillery shell and lost his arms, legs, ears, eyes and most of his face. The remaining torso and head is being kept alive by machines. He lies and thinks about his life for several years before realizing that he can use his head to tap out morse code, but the banging is ignored by his regular nurses and doctors until one Christmas, when a different nurse realizes what he is trying to do. He is finally able to communicate and he asks someone to help him leave the hospital or die. Neither of his wishes is granted."

Amazing! | Reviewer: Erik | 8/15/07

The song "One" defines Metallica. Also to make all you jealous, I have talked with James Hetfield, and he lives 15 minutes from me.

One is the one, the song, the best deepest song, it always will be, thanks Metallica for making this song. It really gets the feeling over about how terrible WW1 was.
