this may number 1 thrash metal song ever. but you no what, in my opinion master of puppets is the only one in my thrash songs list that come from metallica and the other songs come from slayer, overkill, anthrax, exodus and testament.
i'm sorry metallica fans, i say the truth here :p
whatever you think is right | Reviewer: ChrissChross | 10/10/12
First of this is one of the best songs i've heard EVER. The instruments, the lyrics, the voice of james. all of it just comes together in a perfect way.
But on the subject of what the song is about. I have a totally different approach than most of you guys. Sure james wrote it with drugs in his mind but i think everyone has to figure out what any lyrics mean to oneself(is oneself even a word???). To me its about the voices in my head that keep on yelling. Maybe even life itself I don't really know yet. I guess it really should come down to anyone self. If you connect the lyrics to drugs alright with me. if you connect the lyrics with satan, good for you. Just take the lyrics and figure it out for yourself. Thats what music is really about. Not what the songwriter meant but what it means to you, what you read into it, what you feel. Actually, thats what life is about. This is really one great example. You can read so much into these lyrics if you want but there is only one right meaning. The meaning it has to YOU. Take that and preserve it!!! Worship the lyrics for what they mean to you and not what anyone out there tells you. like I said if you think its about satan, for you it is. If for you it is about drugs it is and if you think it is about anything else don't let anyone tell you any different because YOU decide and not some schmag who thinks he has everything figured out for the rest of the world.
Meaning of Master of Puppets | Reviewer: Anonyoumous Metallica Fan | 5/7/12
Its talking about drugs and how you think you're controlling them but in the end its the one controlling you. You're life is torn to shreds yet you come to ask for more to get a TEMPORARY RELIEF from the pain you're enduring. Then when you realize that your life is in the pits, you ask him to fix you.
The "twisting your mind and smashing your dreams" part is saying how you can't focus on anything but the drugs so your ambitions seem unimportant and your life becomes twisted
Just a little extra clarity | Reviewer: Shahir | 3/17/12
Yes guys, this song is about drug abuse. And very much against it, which I like. All the shit rappers go on today is about taking drugs and how good it is. Metallica made an eight-minute, purely freaking awesome song about the dangers of it. Oh and to you guys who say it's about satan - you're wrong. The parts where James says 'Come crawling faster' and 'I will help you die' all indicate drugs, but also to the drug dealer. You see him as your 'master' so to speak. And the part that says 'Fix me!' well that's pretty obvious. You're asking for more, but you're gonna die.
Thrash at it's greatest! | Reviewer: MetallicaFanGreg | 7/5/11
Metallica for Many years dominated, almost indefinitely, the thrash metal scene. And to this day they still do. By entertaining many fans, both young and old, and by being the inspiration to many other bands, it is completely apparent that Metallica have played such an important role in the shaping of our music scene. The lyrical excellence here portrayed is second to none. We can debate what the lyrics mean all day, but isn't that effective? Lyrical greatness sparks debate, and by doing so makes us think. It is this instinct that compels us to question, why? I hereby raise my fist in appreciation. Thank you Metallica, thank you
FUCKING HEAVY | Reviewer: jorge | 4/27/11
this song made feel so angry, it raised some feelings of fury when i heard it. I didn't know then, but i liked this song because i was dealing not with drugs, but with family problems and listening to this song was a catarsis for me. Thanks metallica.

toatally awesome song, long live James and Lars, they just get better as they get older. Master of Puppets is about addiction, it refers to cocaine but could apply to any other addiction, when you are addicted to any drug, it controls you, your fear of not getting your next fix, it takes over your life, your life spirals downwards out of control and you feel powerless to fix it.. but anyway love this song, love the guitar riffs and the drumming, love James Hetfield, looking foreward to seeing them in concert in Nov, lifelong dream come true, taking my 16 yr old son, he loves Metallica too ..
Lyrics are superb! | Reviewer: Saurav | 9/13/10
This song is one of the best songs ever composed on this planet. Song's gr8, and so are the lyrics. The lyrics are mind blowing. The beauty of the lyrics is that they can be dedicated to drugs or its addiction as drugs is something we have no controll over once it begins. And also, lyrics can be dedicated to life as we have no control over our lives too, and Here the Master is God, or luck or life whatever. I dont believe in god. This Song rocks. Long lives James Hetfield and Metallica. . . . . . . . . . .
LOL religious bullshits again | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/23/10
This song is not about satan. Its about drugs and how they control your lives. The master is not satan but the drugs and the puppets are the drug users.Only a stupid cant notice that.
Great song really great.

CRIKEY!
what the mother ship was that! occuring to me it is, rules the album does!
one day i was partying with vader, when he turned to me and squeezed my but, the song waz playing at the time, so it lead me to think that i was the puppet, and vader was the master!
I talked to Toby Junior XIII, and he told me that vader wanted a bit a gay bum, i agreed to it, only if i get my prize; a red piece of paper.
Good song
It's about alcohol and drugs | Reviewer: Gorazd | 6/18/10
Guys, this song is preety much for the drugs and alcohol.Look, why this song is called Master of Puppets? Master=Alcohol or Drugs and Puppets=people. The lyric...,,Chop your breakfast on the mirror'',that's the drug, cocaine.I like the lyrics of the song but I don't like drugs or alcohol. METALLICA FOR LIFE!!!\m/
original great - S&M is weak | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/1/10
The live version is weak. I guess "pain monopoly ra ra ra ritual misery" says it all. He sings every other line - god damn it. Anything past Justice I can't deal with.
I grew up listening to Metallica and they influenced my life greatly. They were as talented and driven as any other band. I feel they are up there as one of the top twenty band of all time through all genres.
and yes bone-heads it's about drugs...
