The Reviews about Holier Than Thou (page 1/1)
------ performed by Metallica

Intolerance and Ignorance. | Reviewer: bloodforoil8 | 11/28/09

This song is lashing out against those who seem to think they can go about and judge everybody different from them. At first glance, I thought this song was written as an attack on fundamentalist christianity(where that "holier than thou" crowd flocks), but I believe it is broader than just that. Anyone who claims they have the higher ground is indeed the more corrupt individual.

Religious | Reviewer: Truth | 7/5/09

I think the song has religious overtones, as well. Isn't there a line in the Bible somewhere that says just that'' "Judge naught lest ye be judged yourself?" PRetty sure it means that people judge too much--whether it be by appearanc eor whether or not certain individuals or groups are worthy of supposed "eternal rewards." General religious consensus says to leave that judgement to whatever God you call your own.

So I'm guessing James is sitting at home (pre-therapy) pounding down a few and listening to his old lady. She might have told him any number of thigs that is on her mind, and/or criticizing him and he's quietly staring at the wall getting angrier and angrier. This song is probably what he was thinking.

I see it all the time. | Reviewer: Reverend Crash | 9/7/08

Being a member of an Outlaw Motorcycle Club, I get judged by the way I look all the time. Never mind the fact I'm an ordained Minister and Chaplain of said Club.

People need to mind their own business. The ones who shout the loudest have the most skeletons in their closet.

exactly. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/4/07

the mindless people that gossip and spread drama because they know their own lives are so worthless... they need to look at themselves.

Was lined up to be the title track off the Black Album, but Lars realized what a big single Enter Sandman would be, therefore Sandman kicked off the album. Wonder if it woulda changed anything if this was the title track...

Haha, well, ironic. | Reviewer: Sarah | 4/29/07

This song is . . wow, amazing. But what I find odd is that. . haha, every single line portrays my mom and how she acts. I'm a bit freaked out about the accuracy of it towards her personality, but a little relieved, also. Heh.
