The Meaning | Reviewer: King Nothing | 10/14/09

What hero just said might be correct, and could be what it means to Hetfield. But the I think that besides the meaning a song or a story has for the writer, it can have a different meaning for everyone because everyone looks at it in his or her own perspective. So there never is one true meaning in a song.

Amazing Song | Reviewer: Hero of the Day | 3/18/08

I have to agree with everyone on here. Fixxxer is an amazing song and I would definitely say the best off of ReLoad. It's one of my personal favorite Metallica songs of all time.

I think Zeus got the closest to the meaning of the song. Thor isn't that far behind though.

My interpretation of the song:

Hetfield actually grew up with a father more than he did a mother. His mother died from cancer when he was still very young. After that he never had a very close relationship with his father because of his father's belief in the Scientific christianity, which had always alienated James at school and in his daily life.

Because James never agreed with or even liked Scientific Christianity at all, he bases alot of his songs on God and religion in general. A good example is The God That Failed. In this, Fixxxer, God looks down upon his subject, Hetfield, and puts pin after pin into him like a voodoo doll. Each pin is something that drastically changed his life. The first being his mother's death. The second not having a really close relationship with his father, and lastly, his father dying(which occurred right before the release of Load/ReLoad I believe.) So when he asks the questions in the chorus "Can you heal what father's done? Or fix this hole in a mother's son?" He's looking up, asking God these questions. And lastly, the reason that leads me to believe Hetfield is talking to God in this, are the following lines: "Renew our faith which way we can" & "To fall in love with life again" This meaning that because of all the pain he's experiencing with the death of his mother and father, he's doubting God and lost his "love" for life.

That's just my two cents.

Nice | Reviewer: Zeus | 1/4/08

This is one of Metallica's best songs. And the lyrics are so "Hetfield". Very profound. It's not just about growing without a father, it is also growing with a ill mother which in the end dies. Sad...

Fixxxer.. | Reviewer: Thor | 11/26/07

I didn't take it as growing up without a father but maybe I misinterpreted it. I thought it meant pain that the father inflicted that scared the child. And for the rest of the child's life these scars were the pins that kept being stuck into their voodoo doll selves. Whatever the case, this was one of there better songs off that album.

True | Reviewer: Metallica Feeds The Soul | 10/13/07

This song is good, and I have grown without a mother yet I don't complain. Metallica always comes up with deep songs :D

A Typical story of life | Reviewer: Alvaro | 6/29/07

This song represent to a lot of young people who has growned without a father.
It's something that affects in every society of the world not only the civilized society but also the most third world's societies.
