Melodic confusion | Reviewer: James | 3/19/13
Although this song lacks in lyrics, it does tell the whole meaning it was supposed to. Especially on the famous: "WE ALL SHALL DIE" or at the devilish gods' laughs that echoes. I wonder if they put this on the shows? But whatever, the intro guitar solo is pretty iconic for it, so is the main solo. Both starting and ending soloes can be classified as melodic, right? Either way, the moment he shreds his way to high notes which, between all the explosive and agressive picks, you can actually listen to another part of the solo: which is formed, probably, ONLY by that kind of music I like to call "Melodic Shredding". But back to it, song is great, my martyr on GH and just as many hardcore songs we start by hating them but ending loving with such a burning passion that I could listen to this the entire day and yell at everyone's face: "WE ALL SHALL DIE!"
Metallica brought thrash to people | Reviewer: Brj Cliff | 4/10/12
Yes it is correct EXODUS was first thrash metal band to be formed but METALLICA was the first band to bring THRASH music to people. EXODUS was formed in 1980 while METALLICA was in 1981 even though credit goes to METALLICA. I think METALLICA was not inspired from EXODUS as Exodus was still underground. Dave is best guitarist but not vocals .. he co-writed 6 Metallica songs
1. Mechanix in demo (the four horsemen in Kill 'em all )and The Mechanix in megadeth's album.
2. Phantom Lord
3. Metal Militia
4. Jump in the Fire
and from ride the lightning
1. The call of ktulu
2. Ride the Lightning ( but not solo , as Hammett wrote solo by himself )
I still hope Cliff was alive and both Cliff, Dave in Metallica
which will make the biggest, best THRASH or HEAVY METAL band ever existed. |m|
Take Dave mustaine out of the picture, please. | Reviewer: Chasen | 9/13/11
Metallica would be just as good or maybe even better of Dave mustaine never existed. All he did was give them a few songs off kill'em all, like one song on ride the lightning, and get inthe way off their road to success by drinking, doing drugs, and fighting with other band members. I am truly amazed Dave mustaine made any sort of career in metal after he was kicked out of Metallica. He is of no significance at all and sucks at singing.
Listen. | Reviewer: Dylan | 7/22/11
Deep Purple's 'Highway Star' is considered the first popular trash metal song. Sure, it's not very heavy, but for the time is was quite heavy, extreme fast, and still one of the most powerful song. Don't be afraid to go to far back, folks. Deep Purple is, for now, credited as creating the basic trash sound.
Blue Cheer had the first metal album with Vincebus Eruptum, and that actually was real heavy with a Heavy Psychedelic sound. Heavy Psych is definitely a devastatingly genre, so I suggest looking into it.
Who brought trash metal into it's modern sound is beyond me though, but it would have happened around the late 70s, consider Led Zeppelin and The Who weren't hard enough anymore.
But anyways, Metallica's 'Fight Fire With Fire' is an essential song for anyone, it's probably Metallica darkest hour, in a good way. The guitar in the opening, which is actually Burton's bass is so amazing. The lyrics are pretty good, if you don't look at For Whom The Bell Tolls, which blows it away.
Great song, great band, not very metal anymore, I think that's something we can all agree on.

Metallica did not invent thrash | Reviewer: Fred | 6/15/11
You people are saying Metallica or Mustaine invented thrash.
Exodus was playing thrash before Metallica, and they are considered the first thrash metal band. Maybe there was some band before Exodus that never became as famous as Exodus. But I'd say Exodus invented or started thrash.
Anyway, great song. Not a big Metallica fan but their older stuff is awesome.
uhm... what's with the beginnings(mustaine invented thrash haha) | Reviewer: bö | 4/9/11
what's with those bands that influenced metallica ? what's with voivod, venom or Exodus ? they had their albums later out, but the music they were playing was also influential for or even already thrash (at least bits... riffing structure, etc.)
mustaine wrote history with metallica, megadeth and the other works he was deeply involved with. but he sure didn't invented thrash.

Well, you are correct with Metallica being influenced by Mustaine, but throwing slayer in was wrong. You see, Slayer was together and had their first album out before Kerry King worked with Mustaine for a short time. That being said, only Metallica were hugely influenced by Mustaine.

simply... think about it. YES, Metallica "invented" thrash, but it was Mustaine the master mind behind that, the first 2 albums of Metallica has his works, and they are IMO (XD) the meanest albums of Metallica, then... Mustaine form Megadeth, another huge of thrash metal... (there goes 2 of the BIG FOUR) and through the pass of years, guitarrist come and go form Megadeth, and where did they go? to slayer... so there's again Mustaine's influence there you go... 3 of the Big Four of thrash have Mustaine's influence.
so in conclusion, thrash wouldn't exist without the master mind of Dave Mustaine who brought an entire revolution to music, he was the one that left something metal on Metallica XD
One of metallica's master pieces | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/17/10
Truly an amazing song. IMO (in my opinion) one of the best songs i have ever listened to. Fast paste and very fun to play on instruments (tiring on drums xD). But depends on my mood when i listen to metallica, they are the best band in history but mostly i listen to this song because of the adreneline.
YEH! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/16/10
When i was told to do this,i thought to myself, how could i possibly not deliver the best speech i couldnt think of. Whilst litening to the song and feeding my cat, the hair against my arms suddenly decided to fall off.
This caused my cat, Toby Junior, to die.
Whilst this all went on, my speakers marricassly blew up and caused a fire. As the song told me too, I began to throw fire on the fire, thus leading to more fire.
It was then when i stopped and thought, what would Toby Junior do in this situition, so I lifted my leg and started to lick my genitals.
Agreed | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/13/10
Not just being the heaviest but also showing the mainstream masses that this was REAL GOOD music.
Melodeath would not be in existence if it wasnt for Metallica. The have an entire Guitar Hero video game of them for a reason.
Thrash Metal Defined | Reviewer: Ernesto Catalan | 12/3/09
Some people have trouble accepting a very simple fact: Metallica are the forefathers of Thrash Metal. "Fight Fire With Fire" is easily one of the most emblematic songs of the genre ever. Think of this; this song appears on Metallica's second album, "Ride The Lightning", which was released in the U.S. by Megaforce records. There were hardly ANY metal bands ANYWHERE playing this brand of extreme metal. Slayer's debut album had been on the market for a mere 6 months when "Ride" hit the streets and Anthrax's "Fistful" had been out for only a couple of months. There weren't any Destructions, Sodoms or Kreators at this point in time, so you tell me who was playing this rabid? Venom? They were more of a joke. Motorhead? Surely intense, but not THIS intense. Discharge? Close, very close, but more on the hardcore side of things.
Metallica may have earned the total hate and disrespect of former fans, but you can't deny that at one point in time, they were indeed, the heaviest band on earth!
Prime Thrash | Reviewer: Chris | 5/16/07
Thrash at its prime, by the gods of thrash Metallica. Hetfield's voice blends with the instrumentals so well, its scary but truly an amazing song. Metallica is God.
