I think this song isn't actually about suicide. I think it's about death to the "old them". About how they didnt want to put on a face anymore and just be themselves. (but hey thats just my opinion)

Good song, even though it's not much like the rest of the album. And yes, their new shit is pretty good, although they can't be compared to this stuff, because that's like trying to compare Classical music with Metalcore music and say straitforwardly which one is actually better. You just can't.

This song was written in the very early days of Metallica. I believe it was composed sometime during the recording of Kill Em All. At the time, some people frowned on this song (and Escape from the same album) as it didn't convey the speed and thrash that dominated all of their debut album. It was undeniable that the rest of Ride the Lightning exhibited the metal that was Metallica.

Death Magnetic is a pretty sweet album.
Yes St. Anger wasn't the greatest, and either was Load or Re-Load, but i respect metallica for them being wiling to give something different a go.
And to the people saying that metallicas music didn't grow and stuff, look, it's pretty difficult to improve on songs such as fade to black, master of puppets and one as they are almost perfection in the first place.

Well this is my all time favorite song from Metallica. It's a great song, good build up, and the lyrics are good too, although dark, but damn good, just like the rest of Metallica is awesome.
I'm glad by the way that they are a bit back with Death Magnetic.

they used to be gods. after the whole napster ordeal, they began to suck bell end. Now they continue to suck the bell end. All albums shoud be free, make money by touring. F off metallica if you guys could only go back to the way u were before greed and shitty music became your ambition.

Metallica choose their own way, they didnt go for "comercial" or the money, they always followed up their way of thinking and wrote songs in basis of what they were filling at that moment!

metallica dind't choose the path that most suited to them, they choose the path that more money gives to them... other thing is that their music dind't grow, st anger is in no way better than fade to black or any other of the "Pre-load" era

They chose the path that best suited how they (as a band) felt. Metallica writes music for themselves, not the fans, which is the way all music should be. No, St. Anger wasn't my favorite album by them. Yes I wish they would write songs like MOP and RTL. But as a band grows, their music grows with them.

Metallica is still by far the best band (in my opinion) out there, and I am looking forward to any future albums that they may release.

This song is definitely My favorite song. I got chills the first time I heard it, and many times after that. I cant wait for death magnetic in september, and their tour! Also, there is going to be a channel on satelite radio where it will be commercial free metallica misic, interviews with the band, and interviews with other bands talking about metallica... As you can see, I am a nut for metallica.
