The Reviews about Fade to Black (page 4/ 10)
------ performed by Metallica

Not quite suicide | Reviewer: Jason | 4/8/09

The song was written after some of their very valuable equipment was stolen, and it was obviously a very upsetting for them. They had to borrow another band's equipment and this song was written about it.

Religous Freedom | Reviewer: Stickler | 4/7/09

James does not sing about suicide directly, but of how religion has failed humanity and death being the only thing to set you free or to a higher power or place. He doesn't say anything about taking his own life but states that he welcomes death. "Missing one inside of me" refers to his lost mother. He longs for death hoping there is an end hoping there is a better place to possibly see her again. "No one but me can save myself, but it's too late" refers to the sins he's committed and can't be undone, that it's to late to repent. In most the songs James writes he seems to be marveling at the failures of Christian religion but hoping all is not lost. Check this out if u want some interesting Metallica knowledge: Metallica, Nietzsche, and Marx the Immorality of Morality by Peter S. Fosl.

suicide ? | Reviewer: bob | 4/4/09

it's not about suicide in a direct way , i guess it was a random moment ,its normal evryone pass through this .. where it seems you got nothing to give , you live for nothing and so on ..
i dont think james really means what he wrote in this song .. it was a random moment for him ..so he came with this .. if they really care about suicide and death they would wrote songs about death and suicide all over ..
anw its a nice song .. worth listening for .

Of course it's about suicide, just read it instead of trying to interpret it first, "Getting Lost within myself, nothing matters no-one else//I have lost the will to live"
Its very introspective when death is mentioned, not unlike people experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Death to "the old them"? Please, its called experimentation, take Slayer for example. Theyve been peddling the same stuff for what, 25 years or so? At least Metallica have something called Variation, its what they needed to survive as a band. This song is written by Hetfield, I'll direct you to "Nothing Else Matters", another ballad. This song lets them get away, if you will, with writing songs such as "One" and "The Unforgiven". Okay, I'll concede they didnt release anything close to this on kill 'em All, but you've got to restart somewhere, yes?

The thing with the lyrics Hetfield writes is that they are so painsakingly obvoious to work out that you think that there must be something behind them, not the case, I'm sorry. Just read/ listen and enjoy, fucks sake, if Thrash taught you nothing it was to enjoy the music not review it (yes I'm well aware of the irony).

Its good people want to think about lyrics by bands such as Metallica, I know so many people that assume its pointless because of the glorious thrash days, but sorry guys there is no debate about what this song is talking to us about.

Not suicide,at all. | Reviewer: Mishael | 3/11/09

When I first hear this fucking song,I asked myself:WTF they was singing about, anh i think is not suicide at all, they just want to say:"Guys, you don't have anything vulueable to live and live for?You should change youself before too late"

Death to ones' self | Reviewer: Bladeofdf | 2/24/09

I think this song isn't actually about suicide. I think it's about death to the "old them". About how they didnt want to put on a face anymore and just be themselves. (but hey thats just my opinion)

Fade to Darkness | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/5/09

I was me but now he's gone...
Good song, even though it's not much like the rest of the album. And yes, their new shit is pretty good, although they can't be compared to this stuff, because that's like trying to compare Classical music with Metalcore music and say straitforwardly which one is actually better. You just can't.

Fade to Black | Reviewer: Puke | 1/20/09

This song was written in the very early days of Metallica. I believe it was composed sometime during the recording of Kill Em All. At the time, some people frowned on this song (and Escape from the same album) as it didn't convey the speed and thrash that dominated all of their debut album. It was undeniable that the rest of Ride the Lightning exhibited the metal that was Metallica.

metallica | Reviewer: Bill | 12/22/08

Death Magnetic is a pretty sweet album.
Yes St. Anger wasn't the greatest, and either was Load or Re-Load, but i respect metallica for them being wiling to give something different a go.
And to the people saying that metallicas music didn't grow and stuff, look, it's pretty difficult to improve on songs such as fade to black, master of puppets and one as they are almost perfection in the first place.

hmmm | Reviewer: alex | 12/12/08

there older shit and St Anger hell fucking wicked but there new album sounds fucking gay all there classics like fade to black,,,nothing else matters,,,unforgiven and so on they r best off metallica that made em legends
