------ performed by Metallica

metal with melody | Reviewer: matthew | 4/24/07

metal with melody, who ever heard of it. one song comes to mind Iron Man by black sabbath and another comes to mind... escape. once again metallica manages to surprise and amaze me. this has got to be the second most underrated song in metallica's catelogue with number one being disposable heroes

Escape 10/10 ***** | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/13/07

True song , good advise . Applies in many various common predicaments where some asshole or group of assholes try to control an induvidual .

Yay. | Reviewer: Mr. 1337 | 4/3/07

This song is freaking awesome. for all you teens who are just getting into metallica, this is the perfect song for you.

2nd Metallica song to catch my ear... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/3/06

When I starting listening to Metallica in college, Ride the Lightning was there most recent album, and Fade To Black was instantly my favorite song. Escape sort of grew on me, however, mainly because of the lyrics - especially the repeatedly chanted chorus at the end: "...Life's for my own to live my own way...". I made a very strong connection with the attitude of this song (and there's plenty of attitude!). It was sort of a personal anthem or theme song, for better or worse.

Its also worth mentioning that I got pulled over on the highway for driving at excessive speeds not once, but twice while jamming on this song. Coincedence, or just those "...damn chains..." trying to hold me down?

A very underrated song | Reviewer: Andrew Rochino | 7/15/06

"Escape" is definitely one of Metallica's more underrated songs. It has never been played live in its entirety, with only bits of it played rarely in medleys or in jams.

Though I am more of a Ktulu and Disposable Heroes man myself, I love the mellow feel of Escape. In my experience, the mellow feel of the song is the reason why so many people are turned off by Escape, and simply press the skip button before even giving it a fair chance.

I'll admit, I wasn't interested in Escape at first. Though after actually listening to it a few times, I began to realize I liked the catchy tune and chorus, as well as the surprisingly deep lyrics.

The lyrics deal with an escape from everything which is preventing you from doing what you want to or even from being as you want to be, which is symbolized as an inmate escaping from a prison (as evident from the sirens at the end of the song). So the song is basically telling you to live your life the way you want to live it, not the way anybody wants you to. And if they try, escape from their oppressing conformity and be yourself, the you want to be.

A catchy, smart song that shouldn’t be overlooked.
