When Metallica cut their hair their so-called loyal fans called them "sell-outs" just like they said " Yeah we sell out, we sell out every concert we perform" if you think the band owes you something you are wrong, you didnt "sign up" for anything dont like their new stuff? so what dont listent to it but dont criticize the band for wanting to change, do not get caught up in the thinking that a band must do what their fans want, Metallica is not governed by the fans James writes what he feels as any songwriter should. Not all metal is the typical, loud head banging stereotype out there. Metallica music is all either Metal and on Garage Inc, there was some Hard Rock, and that is all. Back to the song, it's totally amazing. James Hetfield is an awesome songwriter, especially in the song Mama Said. He's excellent at what he does and sings it with so much emotion that you can seriously feel it. Metallica is excellent. Load was a bunch of Metallica dealing with their issues. ReLoad was not even that. St. Anger was angst. It was a step, but it wasn't anything. Death Magnetic is them becoming metal again. In my opinion, they made true art with Cliff. Music these days is plagued with simple terms and unimaginative ways of making them into a song, and the song writers are getting lazier and lazier with the amount of artists who "nah" or "do" along to the music in place of proper lyrics. James carefully structures every song using metaphors so the meaning is not literally in the lyrics but easily seen once studied. This song is easily my favourite from Load, and actually could be one of my favourite Metallica songs. It's so powerful that you get the feel of the song without even knowing what the lyrics are exactly saying, and after reading them you realize a meaning. I'm not just a thrash metal fan, I'm a Metallica fan no matter what they write.
