Not only are they talented musicians, they are quite often hilarious in interviews and they support good causes such as Comic Relief etc. They are not afraid to declare themselves pop artists, even though the term 'pop' nowadays is often associated by alternative aficionados with being 'bland' and 'manufactured'.
