In the larger scheme of things Geek may be it's own subculture, and that's how it's always been. However, not everywhere is open and excepting to anything that is "different" or challenges the norm (Whatever that may be). There are still plenty of places where geeks and nerds and anyone different get beat up and picked on.

I find it odd that being a nerd or geek used to mean you were a social outcast, but now it's just another clique. Seems kind of ironic that so many songs still preach about how geeks and nerds are shunned when they're their own culture.
