I loved your story and hope that all is well and peaceful with you...my ancestors have lived in NOLA for a very long time and I agree that it is a place like no other...I live 300 miles away and have always felt as if I don't fit in here, as the culture is just totally different, but when I'm there, it's like my piece of the puzzle fits right into place...peace and love to you, dear lady!

Five years ago I learned the meaning of this song. New orleans is Home and I cannot dream of living anywhere else. I came back 1 month after the hurricane and we made it ya'll! We are back! Yes our lives are different and oh so changed. Bt Im so grateful for the lessons God gave us.Thank you for your words... I hope you read this message and know your star shines once more...
One of the greats | Reviewer: Dan Goorevitch | 7/4/06
One of the greats of 20th century (or is it late 19th) American music. The melody is enchanting; it, the lyric and the rhythm are all a piece. Wonderful key changes, surprising series of descending half-tones and, the way Louis sang it, great rhythmic stuff, sudden unexpected triplets that drive the meaning of the song deep into the heart. But I hear the lyric this way (could just be a different recording since I'm not quoting from the published lyric):
Do you know what it means
to miss New Orleans,
to I miss it both night and day
I know it’s not wrong
this feelin's gettin' stronger
the longer I stay away
Miss the moss covered vines,
the tall sugar pines
where mockin' birds used to sing
And I'd like to see
that lazy Mississippi
a’hurryin' into spring
Oh, The moonlight on the bayou,
a Creole tune that fills the air
I dream of Oleander in bloom
and find I'm wishin' that I was there
Do you know what it means
to miss New Orleans?
'cause that's where I left my heart
And there's something more
I miss the one I care for
More than I miss New Orleans.
