What I can get from this song is that's an ironic critique to the never-happy-guys always complaining about Linkin Park's style changes. Mike immediately states he is not a "pattern to be followed", signifying their style can change and they do not oblige anyone to follow them. "I am not the fortune and the fame on the same verse/Telling you to forfeit the game" quotes Points of Authority, one of their most representative nu metal pieces: they're not the same as before. "'cause what you got a theory about how the thing works/Everybody wants the next thing to be just like the first" is a clear reference to their first album, Hybrid Theory, which was the perfect moneymaker album: people want them to do the same thing over and over, but they just don't like it anymore. The rest of the song describes what the band is and what is not, what it has been and what it will be. The Chorus suggests that people should bring themselves up to date, instead of fossilizing themselves.
