Bullies | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/15/08

I think the song is about bullies... it could be about Simon who carried the cross (or just the title could be that) but I really think the lyrics are about bullies, because I have been bullied and I totally, completely relate to this song. "Refuse to feel anything at all, refuse to slip, refuse to fall. You can't be weak, you can't stand still, you watch your back, 'cause no one will." Some people really don't understand the horrors of being bullied, but this song captures it. I believe the title (Simon who carried the cross) is just an allusion for the person who is being bullied. Because I feel that this song has completely and totally captured my experiences of being bullied.

I think the reason why I've listened to this song more than any other and why every time it still manages to send goosebumpsa down my very being is simply because... Its a part of me... Of all of us.

How they managed it, we'll never know, but Lifehouse have truly managed to encapsulate part of yourself, of everyone within a song; something that is unheard of in any other piece of music yoiu care to mention.

It is how all of us must realise that there are so many evil people in this world, and all we can do is rise above, the sympathy of the narrator is the soothing lullaby that we all need, and whether we are ready to admit it or not, we all crave...

This song is so much more than just music...

It is a masterpiece that lives in everyone with a concience.

And quite simply the greatest song of all time...

If you do some objective research, you'll get some results as the biography of lifehouse found on this site. However, if you go into this site, http://www.christianitytoday.com/cl/2001/006/22.28.html , you'll see the real facts beneath their whole band and why so many people have so much trouble finding the motive of their music. Jason has purposely filtered out the image given to the public due to the reason stated in the site provided. After all the facts are laid out, the basis of this song is clearly evident: the song is about the biblical character Simon, the man who carried the cross for Jesus right before his crucifixion. Considering this, try to ponder about the underlying message of this song. I hope you stumble upon something good

The song is about bullies. People (kids, maybe) being bullied, ignored, laughed at...all that stuff.
On their newest CD there's a song that goes a bit further, but has (so the Lifehouse-guys say) the same topic. The song is called 'The Joke'.
Oh, by the by, I think it's not 'indifferent walls', but 'the different ones'. Last verse (I think).
Anyhoo, great song. So real, so good, so painful and yet peaceful.

This song reminds me of Atlas Shrugged and the pressing need of humans to feel worthy. The weak that are crawling on this individual are damaged the person to seclusion, so that they have nothing more left to gain from him. The singer is providing a message of hope, that his spirit is not their's to feed off of. He must be strong in himself, and not bend to their pleas. It is an odd formation, however, when the singer tells about the castle with indifferent walls, though in being strong, the person would build one of these castles for himself. In this culture to be arrogant is the deepest sin, because it makes others feel bad. Yet, to keep going one must be arrogant compared to those who are feeding off of him. I love that paradox, it is the entire reason I looked up the lyrics in the first place.

i think the titel has a catholic background. simon helped jesus by carring the cross. a person who sacrified his own. and i think this is what the lyric is about. the need of taking care of the weaker though you hurt yourself. and in my opinion it doesn t only be a danger of destroying yourself but also a danger to the weak that have to break you, if they recognize. sad but maybe true ^^

Amazing | Reviewer: JP | 7/21/07

Lifehouse is one of the BEST undiscovered bands that are currently playing. They clearly are making the radio and keep a few hits on each album but all of their music is amazing. Jason Wade has an amazing song writing and singing talent. And for him to start off so young, he writes some of the most powerful lyrics I've heard in a long time. This song is just one example.
