I like it.. Very different. However, from a more "music critics" perspective... I think is a great song. The beat has a great R&B influenced pop sound to it. I do feel that U.S. R&B lovers won't go crazy about her simply because popping up R&B up is a sin to them in many ways. The songs lyrics are absolutely genius. Leona delivers a real passionate different vocal on this song that is different from what was showcased on the X Factor show. Which is one of the things that takes away the half a star. This song is great.... but only shows a fraction of what she can really do like her performances of Somewhere Over The Rain, I Have Nothing, Summertime, and A Moment Like This. However, I can completely understand the marketing strategy here. I was just expecting a similar to Vision of Love, I Will Always Love You, or All By Myself, I Turn To You ..... just a really good pop power ballad. This is what I wud call the equivalent of something like Mariahs Always Be My Baby or Honey.... great pop songs that only show part of the singers vocals... and after that long explanation that's why she gets 4 and half stars. ..... Lolz My thoughts on what this song means... | Reviewer: Adrian | 2/2/08 Great song... while most likely not marketed as a religious artist, personally I think that Leona Lewis is singing a song about God. "Closed off from love, I didn't need the pain", it would appear that this does indeed refer to being hurt by somone that was once special to her, or the person in which she is singing for. "But something happened, For the very first time with you, My heart melts into the ground, Found something true, And everyone's looking round, Thinking I'm going crazy". However, what this says to me is that something happened, for the first time God has touched her and she has found truth in the grace of God. When a non-believer sees somone who believes in God and puts all their trust and faith in God, in something that they cannot see... what is the non-believers first reaction? To treat them as if they are going crazy, thinking there is no such thing. "But nothing's greater, Than the rush that comes with your embrace, And in this world of loneliness, I see your face". What does a bliever feel when they have found favour in the eyes of God? They feel a sudden rush, it feels great, when no one else cares, when it seems like you're all alone... you feel God's grace, he embraces you and carries you through... she sees His face, she sees God by the sudden rush, and the emotions felt when you truly submit your life to God... and great and wonderful feeling. "But I don't care what they say, I'm in love with you, They try to pull me away, But they don't know the truth". They all still think she is going crazy for believing in something that she or no one else can see, but she doesnt care what they say, even though they try to pull her away from God and live a life for herself. What is one of the main things that a non-believer will do to a religious person? Tell them that God isn't real, that you control your own life, they say everything they can to try and make them believe that God isn't real. Not on purpose, but it's a basic instinct for a non-belive, to try and pull a believer away from God. "My heart's crippled by the vein, That I keep on closing, You cut me open and I...". She tries to cover her beliefs up so no one will see it, because she is scared of what they all think of her... they think that she is crazy.
