I think that this song is about the ultimate forces of good and evil/dark and light/etc that other people have also mentioned. Sure, there's definitely elements of lotr in this, but I don't see this song at all as being created to, say, express Tolkien's wonderful story. If so, then how do angels of AVALON fit into it? I haven't read the books in about 6 years, but I don't recall Avalon ever being a part of Middle Earth... Lets say the songs about the fight between good and evil, which is what I believe. Knowing LZ were imaginative and great writers, brilliant at that. This song could just as easily be about solar eclipses. Wraiths have been around for along time, also known as ghosts, shades, etc. Shade in Latin is umbra. The umbra of solar eclipses is round or in other words, a ring! So that could be just as right as saying it's from LOTR. But to really just destroy all of the LOTR fans hearts, go read The History of the Kings of Britain, and learn about it. If you would like I can tell you why this would tie into this song more than anything. IF any of you ever decide to get off the bandwagon or stop being f*cking dorks on Lord of the Rings and actually read some of their interviews, books, magazines, and/or videos, you will see that the members of the band had a fascination with fantasy much like Lord of the Rings, however, that does not indicate that the song is directly related to Tolken's work.
