Nah you guys this song was written during the time the British and Irish were having problems. The boy is talking about his irish friend whom he is not allowed to be friends with anymore. Its meant to be sad and its not about a friend of a gay boy. He doesnt know how to tell his irish friend that he cant be friends with him anymore, then he sees his friend crying later on.

It was written in the forested countryside of wales as I have heard, It's mainly about the confusing things the band seen in america like violent protests, and having guns drawn on them and getting spit on.

Not gay AT ALL | Reviewer: Charlotte the Clean Hippie | 4/11/08

I think its about this clean cut, very nice young boy who has a friend, who is, well, not so nice, maybe hippie, maybe troubled, and he is no longer allowed to hang out with him, and as the song goes on, the troubled/hippie boy gets upset with him for not staying friends or something and yeah. not gay.

meaning | Reviewer: geez | 2/3/08

for me it's about change and the previous generation's reluctance to let the younger generation grow up differently then how they grew up. The child is being judged by his physical appearance and by where he lives. it can be applied to various different situations this is just a general explanation of what the song is about.

I always thought this song was about a boy who must grow up. His momma told him the way it oughtta be, and he is realizing momma isn't always right. He loses his childhood friend, and he breaks a girl's heart.

Youre all wrong | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/10/08

Its about the harsh reality of touring, and how hostile so many regions were to them because of their long hair, and hippy attitude. Not about being gay not about two childhood friends. Robert plant himself described the song as a desire to escape the harsh realities of life on the road into a more romantic world of peace and love. EXACT QUOTE PEOPLE

Beautiful melody | Reviewer: kdav | 11/14/07

I always thought it was about having a gay friend as well- I was 14 at the time this came out and it just had that vibe to it.

Countries | Reviewer: Chily | 11/14/07

The song is about the differences between America and England. It's in the Rolling Stone from August '06, with them on the cover.

That's the way I like it | Reviewer: ryan campbell | 11/11/07

I have a box set of all of Zepplin's albums, and of course I have Led Zepplin III. I like this song because of the way the acoustics flow together. I like the mandolin, acoustic and steel sounding guitars in the background. The way they can make them all flow as one is way cool. The lyrics are cool and neat, but I have to say I like the music a little bit more.

It's like deja vu all over again... | Reviewer: Pruitt | 10/24/07

Back when I was a kid and the "hippy" movement got going you'd see some kids transform in to hippys while other stayed "straight" and did what momma told them to do. To me this song describes what I saw going on around me and my friends in our teen years.
