I think this song's about vanilla ice cream, when it says "There's a feeling I get when I look to the west" it's clearly referring to ice cream and it's creation at the western nations. And when it says "Ooh, Ooh, it makes me wonder about vanilla" i definetedly masturbate myself
It is simply a beautiful song ...... | Reviewer: TheRad | 12/10/07

Geeze people, don't you ever "just listen to the song in the dark, NOT STONED, and see the smoke rings and hear the people laughing and the Piper playing his tunes" ?????
I see the Golden Stairway and all the Golden Glitter and everything the song describes .... that is what MUSIC is MEANT to do ..... send us to a calm place in our minds and souls where we can assume the essence of the Entire Song as "WE FEEL IT" .... be it Lyrics, Instrumentals, or the All Consuming Ambience of Sounds. (SoundScapes)
Why do all songs have to be some weird and throw'd off satanic bunch of cheese-bag-garbage ???
I grew up around one of the largest and most prolific Recording Studios in the United States and can say that it would be a most expense and foolish thing to do for a group/band to try and add "Backwards Tracks" to any song for any reason ...... it is not as simple as saying a few words 'Forward' that turn out saying 'Something Else when Played in Reverse'.
After all, if you listen to all the Filthy RAP Trash that is infecting everything the same as HIV is and it is considered FREE SPEECH .... why waste money, technology, and talent on some idiotic "Reverse Message" hidden in a Backtrack of a set of Lyrics.
It is just stupid beyond stupid !!!!!

I'm pretty sure this song doesn't mean anything... they were probably all hyped up on LSD when they wrote it anyway... Plus, I doubt that the backtracking thing really works; I know people who have the cassette version, tried to do it, and got nothing.
Plus, what matters about the song itself is the best guitar solo in all of music, and how each intricate part of the band fits together seamlessly to emulate the perfect sound of true LZ rock.
amazing | Reviewer: Sam | 12/8/07
This song is about the redemption of the lady in question's soul. She has spent her life sinning and assuming she'll get in to heaven (with a word she can get what she came for) and realising that she won't unless she tries to redeem herself through said piper and changing the road she's on and in the end all turns to gold and she makes it.I know it's not,but it's basicaly the story of mary magdaline.

"yall have no idea wat stairway to heaven is about. most of think that its where if your a bad person you can change what your doing and still go to heaven. yall are nowhere close to what the meaning is. its about a girl that gets everything she wants."
Well, that is true for the whole first stanza. The main arguement that the song says simply is: All people are inately good. It doesn't matter if you are like the woman in the first part of the most amazing song ever recorded or you are as horrible as Stalin. People can change for the better.
It is this deep hope that acts as a harbinnger of some kind of peace to exist within humans. Idealistic as it may be, it is still what makes this song beautiful and legendary.
"And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter"

donnie. ur ignorant. im not tryin to sound gay but this song is poetic. poetry is all about perspective. every person looks at it differently. so dont go and say that people dont know. u think its about a girl who gets everything she wants. others think its satanic.
i think its about a lady who thinks all that is of value, is of the highest value. ("all that glitters is gold"). the stairway to heaven is the most prized thing in life. i dont know how to explan it. but its a sacred self given reward. she reads the sign over and over, wanting to be sure. because words have two meanings. but the songbird sings that thoughts are misgiven. so what does she beleive? are there two meaning to the sign? or is that a misgiven thought? it makes u wonder.
but she is still in the process of reaching the stairway of heaven "buying a stairway to heaven" she looks to the west. she crys for leaving. shes making a huge decision in life, and the voices of those who stand looking are those of her conscious. so shes holding her own breath as she makes the decision. but whats the decision? it makes u wonder.
if we all cooperate "if we all call the tune" the piper will help u along the way. "but those who stand long" those who have patience, a new day awaits. and echoing laughter(happiness) will come.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
i think this means that if theres something extra in your life (hedgerow) then dont worry, its expected and is given by one who challenges you.
now there are two roads... but in the long run u can change your path. does this mean that u may choose now and if u dont like it then change it later? does ur decision make a great deal of difference? it makes u wonder
ur head is humming and it wont go. the piper is calling u to join him. the piper is influencing u. the humming is ur confusion and low confidence in what u should choose. but shes making this decision too complicated. the stairway lies right where she can grasp it. upon the whispering wind.
however. as we go down the road. "our shadows taller than our souls"(our regrets weighing down our good deeds.) the lady we all know. she is showing us that all is and can be good, but u have to listen very hard to urself. and the answer(tune) will come alast
and all is the stairway to heaven. and the stairway to heaven is all. but she is still buying a stairway to heaven. she still has to make the decision.
there are many different ways of looking at it. so there is no right or wrong.
just spreading the musical love | Reviewer: jason | 11/27/07
just came upon this site, since the lot of you are zeppelin fans, especially the young ones, you might enjoy this band "The Parlor Mob". just youtube their two songs "Bullet" or "Tide of Tears". they just might be our generation's Zeppelin. and not because of the similarities in appearance or music. Just being THAT rock band of this generation. The one you tell your kids about when you see them wearing 'parlor mob' shirts.

yall have no idea wat stairway to heaven is about. most of think that its where if your a bad person you can change what your doing and still go to heaven. yall are nowhere close to what the meaning is. its about a girl that gets everything she wants. yall also think theres a satanic message in it then yall are some reall idiots. robert plant didnt give a shit. he would of put a satanic message in it forwards. think about this the song forwards is about a girl that gets whatever she wants and then if you play it backwards theres a satanic message in it. hmm. sounds kinda weird dont you think. yall nothing about zeppelin.
yall probably dont even no that there reuniting december 10th in london with bonzos son jason on drums.
stop being so jealous! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/16/07
This is the greatest song of all time,on the greatest album of all time (untitled, but refered to as Led Zeppelin IV) By the greatest band of all time which featured the greatest guitarist of all time (Jimmy Page) the greatest vocalist of all time (Robert "Percy" Plant) the greatest drummer of all time (John "Bonzo" Bonham) and the greatest bassist of all time (John Paul Jones) who completed NINE tours from 1969-1971 (album recorded in '71,song written in '70) and released 4 of the greatest albums ever in those 3 years and your tryin' to tell me that they took the time to put satanic messages in their songs?how come this amazing band only got into trouble with stupid christian extremists (i'm christian myself) AFTER they started writting about heaven? As for satanism all i can say is it takes one to know one and theese people just hear what they want to.Trust me,i've seen every stupid video with and without lyrics in front of me and it's bullcrap!Yeah Jimmy had "occult" interests but he's no satanist (he's never sacrificed anyone to satan,he's just interested in the subject) and this is widely acknowledged as the best song ever and it wasn't a single.Zep took album bands to the mainstream and hardly ever released singles.name one other band on earth that could do that!it proves how great they are.all other bands are measured by singles while LZ sold out almost every show with next to zero radio support.anyone who thinks they're evil are just jealous!
