First off, i would like to say that anyone who posts stupid comments about songs should find a life and not post random shit- and whoever does go shoot yourself becasue your worthless.
Second off, i think this song is great and one of the greatest songs of all time!

I love this song; have loved it for years. However, lately, when I hear it I can't help but think it would be appropriate for Hillary Clinton's campaign theme song. Tongue-in-cheek.... but not so much.

This song is, you know, biblical. I guess, Robert Plant or Jimmy Page was possessed by Jacob (the biblical character who dreamed of a stairway to heaven) while writing/composing this masterpiece. Maybe, these two guys were Christian preachers before they became music legendary heroes. It is also possible that they were archangels (Yuh, like Gabrielle) before because they were able to remember their old friend (Lucifer) and include him in the song's ingredients. As I listen to this song, I can say that Led Zeppelin are good followers of GOD (& not Jesus).

Idiots will definitely criticize this song. GOD's believers will surely love/praise it.

I tought, when I heard for the first time "this is just one more rock song", but I listened carefully and I realised that is so deep. the letter has many things to analize... I think it`s about a girl who want to buy the stairways to heaven, so her soul can enter there and rest in peace. But she`s doing the wrong way, because if you despite you life and you want to die before your hour come, the steairs not go to the heaven. But she doesn`t know it.

I think this song is about a woman who is an alcoholic and drinks so much so she can forget how unhappy she really is. It seem s that no matter how much she drinks her spirit is still unhappy. She was trying to read the signs cause she really needs to drink and she feels like the reason why the stores were closed was because her spirit or soul was giving her a sign that she shouldn't drink anymore because she is unhappy and killing herself. although she sees that the signs can mean that she should stop drinking, she still continues with what she does best. buy her stairway to heaven... First of you need to understand the song in general....just because you say it sucks its just an opinion. And just because LZ was high and or on LSD that makes no meaning for you to say the song sucks...Dont speak if you dont know what your talking about...all you nasayers!

I've heard that is about a story. The story of his daughter. That she was so sick that the doctors said there was no cure, that she was going to die. So in a las try to save the life of her daughter, he sold his sould to the devil, in returne he would cure her. The girl became healthy and went out with his father. Walking on the street, when a car passed by and crashed with the little girl. The song is about this "women" who is buying her self a stairway to heaven.

It's a really deep song, i don't care if the dude was high or not. I think is a beautiful song, and one of the most epic of all times.

This song is about a woman who accumulates money, but finds out the hard way her life had no meaning and will not get her into heaven.

I must agree Azsrael, no matter how shitty a song is and no matter how many drugs the band might be doing, the song will still have meaning. I can't say that this is one of my favorite song, but the band is great and the song is still damn good.

It is in MY OPINION that all you objectors out there who say that they were high on acid and it doesn't mean anything. Lyrics don't just get written out man EVERY fucking song has a meaning no matter how shitty it is. I think many will join me when i say stairway to heaven is one of the most epic songs of all time.

I've been listening to this song and trying to figure out what it means for a few years now. I have also read all the satanic backwards messages and listened for them, I think it is coincidence. We wouldn't hear it if we didn't read it first, just some religious fanatics made it up because there spirit is uneasy about the message. I read that Jimmy page wrote this in a state of meditation at a castle in england in front of a fireplace. I think the spirit world is trying to convey about the misinterpretations of the bible and misguided religions (there's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure, cuz you know sometimes words have two meanings. In a tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven) in my thoughs I have seen rings of smoke through the trees is about reading between the lines and interpreting and the voices of those who stand looking is about the spirit world again trying to convey a message. I think this song's about vanilla ice cream, when it says "There's a feeling I get when I look to the west" it's clearly referring to ice cream and it's creation at the western nations. And when it says "Ooh, Ooh, it makes me wonder about vanilla" i definetedly masturbate myself

I grew up around one of the largest and most prolific Recording Studios in the United States and can say that it would be a most expense and foolish thing to do for a group/band to try and add "Backwards Tracks" to any song for any reason ...... it is not as simple as saying a few words 'Forward' that turn out saying 'Something Else when Played in Reverse'.


After all, if you listen to all the Filthy RAP Trash that is infecting everything the same as HIV is and it is considered FREE SPEECH .... why waste money, technology, and talent on some idiotic "Reverse Message" hidden in a Backtrack of a set of Lyrics.

I'm pretty sure this song doesn't mean anything... they were probably all hyped up on LSD when they wrote it anyway... Plus, I doubt that the backtracking thing really works; I know people who have the cassette version, tried to do it, and got nothing.

Plus, what matters about the song itself is the best guitar solo in all of music, and how each intricate part of the band fits together seamlessly to emulate the perfect sound of true LZ rock.

This song is about the redemption of the lady in question's soul.She has spent her life sinning and assuming she'll get in to heaven (with a word she can get what she came for) and realising that she won't unless she tries to redeem herself through said piper and changing the road she's on and in the end all turns to gold and she makes it.I know it's not,but it's basicaly the story of mary magdaline.
