Damn Man | Reviewer: Robert | 5/25/10

Name me 5 other songs that kick ass for 10 minutes without stopping this is one of my all time favorite Zeppelin songs man. Suprising no one here but the Mighty Zepp is in my book as the greatest gift to rock music with the exception of the Fab Four man.

Amazing! | Reviewer: Brett the Zep | 5/20/10

I am 14 years old and I am one of the only of hundreds of people I know who doesnt like shitty pop and rap music, Achilles Last Stand is one of the most epic songs of all time by the greatest band of all time, but also hard to rank in the top 10 zeppelin songs (cause everyone of their songs is so epic, maybe not hats off to roy harper) anyone who loves zeppelin please speak up!

Zepplin ROCKS!!!!!! | Reviewer: sean | 4/9/10

I'm 12 years old and for as long as i can remember I have listened to classic rock with my dad.(Zepplin, floyd, Rush, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, ect.) I just listend to achilles last stand in my dads truck and about blew the speakers out of it. In my 12 years, I have listened to about every classic rock song that you can think of and its up in the top five. I feel sorry for my generation because we don't have nothing that compares to music like this, instead we have one hit wonder bubblegum music that sounds like crap.

Uhm, no. | Reviewer: Liddosyner | 4/1/10

This song isn't about mythology. It's about a wreck Robert Plant, his wife, children, and Jimmy Page's daughter (Scarlet) were involved in. Plant's wife nearly died, plant himself was told he wouldn't be able to walk again without proper therapy.

Song is also about. | Reviewer: Achilles | 3/25/10

Don't forget that the song was written with the Atlas mountains in sight, (they're NOT in Greece) Things happened elsewhere, but it all came together in another place. Morocco.

You need less than a tenth of brain to know that Page was heavily into fantasy and myth.

All About the Music | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/25/10

Songs like this are most likely known for the music and the way of singing, not really for the lyrics. Achilles Last Stand's music is indeed very deep, although the lyrics are not, but that does not matter, does it? Creative song.

Difficult Piece | Reviewer: E. Lackey | 2/12/10

This song is probably Zeppelin's most under-appreciated and yet brilliant songs they've ever done. It is extremely difficult to play. The band had actually played it live on a couple rare occaisions, one of them being Knebworth '79. Not long before John Bonhams tragic death. It was amazing to actually watch the band play this amazing song. Yes, there are dual meanings to the song, mythical and physical.

Really, the words are not very thoughtful | Reviewer: Carter | 12/13/09

It's a great song, but as far as myth goes the lyric is rather meaningless. Evidently it was put together fairly rapidly, and is thus rather slap dash. Yes, it is fun to listen to, but you're selling yourself short if you don't move on and read the real thing: Homer . . . and Milton!

Achilles Last Stand | Reviewer: Patricia | 10/18/09

Amazing epic! Plant calls it "the wheel chair piece", composed when he was recovering from the ankle injuries due to the car accident.
Actually there are lots of speculations on the meaning of the lyrics, which incorporates Greek mythology and references from William Blake (Albion remains sleeping now to rise again...), but Plant once said only two people in the world know the real meaning of this song: Jimmy Page and himself...
To me it´s pure poetry and pure joy, no matter what the meaning is!

Those lyrics are not entirely accurate. It's not "Dancing I fought the crowds, yeah." It's "With dancing eyes we court the crowd, yeah." It's not entirely "I know the way, know the way, know the way, know the way" either. Robert throws in "I'm gonna reign, gonna reign, gonna reign, gonna reign." I have the complete Presence that was published by Flames Of Albion, the same company that published the band's original music.

The song title is NOT a joke regarding the tripping incident. The song title comes from the fact that Robert's car accident happened on the Greek island of Rhodes and his Achilles tendons were so damaged that he was told by physicians he might never walk again. The song is about doubt and hope.

thank you | Reviewer: Daryl | 8/18/09

Thank heavens for the ability to search out song lyrics on sites like this. Back in '76, you had to guess what the lyrics were, and when it came to this album, it was pretty easy to guess wrong! ;)

falling off a stool | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/18/09

When recording this song, Robert Plant fell off of the stool he was on, damaging the leg that he hurt in a car accident. He said that Jimmy picked him up and carried him to the car. Robert remarked how difficult that might have been because he is quite a bit bigger than Jimmy. The song title is a joke in reference to the incident.

Mythology in this song | Reviewer: Todd Cox | 7/14/09

This song is definently about mythology as Atlas is the titan who was cursed by Zeus to hold Ouranos (the sky) above his head at the edge of Gaia (the earth) Hence the line "the mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the earth". The first section of the song could be about Achilles but it's hard to tell.
