I started this search because it's a song my 13 year old daughter listens to. Children listen and observe all that goes on in their environment and often times music gives them a way to understand their present realities. For many years she has seen me cry in frustration and anger (over my marriage), and just today I told her that dad and I are separating. I know what the song means, and hate that it links my past, present, and, hopefully not, my daughter's future. There is no perfect family. We have one of two choices regarding our parental role models: do as they do or choose to learn and grow and go in the direction of our own hearts. The song's beautiful. And while connecting the dots of our present lives, it is imperative that we chart a course to the other side. The pain is real and goes deep, but we can break the cycle and must go forward, changed.

When i hear the lyrics of this song,they made me speechless...There are some many feelings that can go out from my heart when i hear Kelly pain....broken heart....and hope...!!!I want give up!I will keep on fighting for my true love...Kelly thanks to you i know i can do it

I don't think many people realize how insecure they are, but the truth is that most probably they don't even have an idea where everything started. Well parents pass their own insecurities to their children in many ways. Lies, broken promises,the way the treat others in front of them, the weak relationship btw spouses, cheating, alcohol and drug abuse, etc. It's very depressing to realize that these children grow up one day to become insecure individuals. A lot of times they become a version of what at one point they hated the most and swore not to be. It's such a vicious cycle.

This song brings me to tears everytime I hear it, but it also helps me realise that I am not the only one in the world with these kind of problems. I specially like the part when she sings "I am forced to fake a smile, a laughter everyday of my life", 'cause my mom screams at me even when I don't smile when she wants me to.Kelly thank you for this song, you've made that every fight with my mom hurts less than it used to.

There are some aspects of this song I don't get when Reba is singing lead. It would work better if Kelly sang the daughter part, not the mothers.

Hi i'm 16 & this song fits the way i look out on to the world of love. My dad has been in prison ever since i was about 7 months old & i can remember nights i was so wired up when i was little & i would just walk to the bathroom for something to do & i would hear my mom cring and i never knew why. I've seen her go through relationship after relationship and still i hear her cry at night, now I'm so afraid to actually go out into the world of relationships i've only dated 2-4 guys & thats only because we've known each other since grade school so this song goes out to my mom.

I'm 31 and married. I stopped living w/ my mom @ 12 years old after living with her most of those years, 8 of them I remember full of drama and her leaning hard on me for support. 2 bad marriages, i felt like the adult a lot of the time since she was and still is an alcoholic. it's hard to forgive and forget. i thought i had. this song makes remember and i get sad, cry and very angry at mom. i hope i never hear this song again. i write this as play itagain on youtube. it hurts so bad.

yeah...whoever wrote this song gets some very powerful truths about what it means to come into adulthood without those things we should have gotten as children. it's excrutiating most of the time, and an amazing thing to hear someone speak to that, when most people don't. thanks kelly, for letting us know we're not as alone as we think.

Great song to plant awareness among battered women. It is good to acknowledge and see how you can avoid being hurt, but sad to say in the end, you hurt yourself by being too protective of yourself that you can not even enjoy your own life. Kelly has great reflection and can really put the emotions out there. Good job, girl..
