The Reviews about John Prine (page 1/1)
carrier of the torch | Reviewer: M.R. Fromm | 8/10/09
John Prine is, and always will be, the carrier of the torch for country folk music in the "baby boomer" generation. He is a unique wordsmith and path blazer for countless writers... such as Steve Earle and Todd Snider...and will always leave his imprint on the American music scene. Prine has made the best out of three chords since Chuck Berry's "hey days" in the 1950's. *snicker*
Dazed and Amused | Reviewer: River Stronghold | 6/5/09
An old girlfriend named Patty introduced me to Prine's music and said it had saved her life...we went to our local outdoor Friday night concert in Chattanooga and listened to "The Happy Enchilada!"
Later i was to both keep his cats Dixie and Chelsea Lynn with their antique wicker cat carrier and to have him save my life. He autographed "Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings" when i was full of both. I got to enjoy coffee with Brother Bill at a church and later enjoy their tuneful togetherness at the Tivoli and thereby got to be blessed by Pat McLaughlin.
If you're just getting sober though and haven't been inoculated with Sam Stone, don't start up that tune now. Prine sings the theme songs of hell and the anthems of heaven and the mutterings of paths passing both. What a blessing! If you know how to cry and you know how to laugh and you're not scared of either, you jump right in there and travel a trip to where your soul sings and rhythms ring while you get your dirt out of Boss's hole.
