I broke up with my ex 4 years ago and still cant forget about him eventhough im in another relationship now. no that i still love him, cz i really love my current boyfriend, but it's just that ive been wondering a lot on the what ifs and what could have happen.. i guess i just need to take a time out and appreciate with what i have.. what kills me the most is that i have no idea of where my ex went to, how is he now etc cz he's totally off social medias. i guess if i knew how he is and where he is at, i'd be slightly better. :'(
Painful... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/1/11
This is one of the songs I listened to when me and my boyfriend broke up. I sat there listening to it after crying so much... but when John Mayer sings "Can't seem to hold you like I want to, so I can feel you in my arms. and You were the one I tried to draw " I burst into tears again because I realised I will never be with him ever again. I cried so much harder when John Mayer sings "Go cry about it, why don't you?". This song is so relatable to me... man John Mayer can write such AMAZING LYRICS

wow this song really speaks. it expresses all the feelings i had towards a past relationship. This song is one i am considering for my dance solo this year.. but im not soo sure yet. its not the way i feel right now about my current relationship because right now it is amazing. but it is a feeling you get when u first start dating.

My girlfriend have been going at it, on and off, for almost 3 years now. its all ways us crawling back to each other and her breaking up with me and hurting me and the vicious cycle continues on and on. and when we are dating she would hurt me and she would even know it, "because she didn't understand". it was like i tried soo hard to keep the relationship going and stable, but i was the only one trying. 3 years of on and off, and i'm finally noticing i have to tell her, "Don't you think we oughta know by now?" it hurts so bad to be the one leaving her, but its gone on way too long and its hurting even more by every second that i wait with her in a relationship that leads to nowhere. we're slow dancing in a burning room is all we have been doing.

John mayer cries out to a dying love as he comes to a harsh realization through a song that sends shudders down the spine and dusts the cobwebs off the brain. Weaved throughout the elegiac sound, bits and pieces of a new BB king shine through. Mayer picks up right where King left off, bringing the world to its knees in adoration of a bluesy magician. Where his lyrics may lack the overall depth of Bob Dylan’s, his beats, rhythms, notes, and trills match those of rock stars and jazz musicians before. He brings together a mosh pit of Elvis, Beatles, King, Jackson, and Nirvana, wailing to a love lost through the bitter torments of life.
Mayer does not leave the lyrics of his lamentation to any short comings. Dancing in and around the lines and measures can be found concepts and devices that even the most renowned authors struggle with. His overarching point to the song is an enchanting hyperbole and metaphor that will shake the foundation of any mind; “Slow dancing in a burning room” (15, 34, 40). It dives right down the the heart of the love he and another feel. It exaggerates the end of their relationship to get the point across that the world is falling in around them. He shows no regret as he hortatorily tells his crushed rose to “Go cry about it.” (35-37) In context mayer explains that she was never the woman he wanted her to be. He says that she would hit him just to hurt him, and that she was a bitch because she could be. (23-24)
Mayer’s postmodern view almost makes their destruction seem like a beautiful thing that he himself could care less of. The lyrics cast a light upon how the relationship was only rooted at the surface. Because of his lack of personal destruction, Mayer throws a sign around his neck that reads, “Pshh, I feel it’s over, no need to go deeper.” This personifies the fact that the only truth he revels in is a personal truth, not caring enough to think and compare his views with an overall truth.
Mayer’s song consists primarily of a personal love, not caring much to delve into any historic, economic or scientific aspects of anything. His song’s sole purpose makes the world stop and think about their own relationship, and if they too are slow dancing in a burning room.
My true loves farewell | Reviewer: Marcus | 8/20/10
This song hits the situation i am in at the moment spot on. After a lot of heartaches i met a girl who swept me of my feet. I just knew she was the one... and for close to a year our love was perfect... endless hours of conversations... chemistry... passion... all that. But 3 weeks ago she completely changed and totally blocked me out of her life. She never told me why and i will propably never know her reasons... Tomorrow i will officially end it. And John Mayer gives me Comfort... this song is like a lighthouse in a storm at night. Sometimes true love is just a echo of our hope to find someone right and true...
Love hurts. and it has to. Else we wouldnt be able to appreciate it so much
just beautiful music | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/3/10
This song is so relatable as is a lot of john's songs, There are parts of this song to me that suggest there both trying so hard to hold onto what isn't there anymore, and when two hearts seperate it can be the saddest thing, the "I'll make the most of all the sadness; You'll be a bitch because you can, you try to hit me just to hurt me, so you leave me feeling dirty" I've been through that, she hit me with her stares, her sad eyes, her invisible tears, these are the things she did to leave me feeling guilty/ dirty, for how I was behaving after she ended it. Also Can't seem to hold you like I want to, so I can feel you in my arms, These lyrics hurt the most, we're out of each others lives now out of each others reach, just strangers to one another so yes john's music is very therapuetic and puts things in perspective, A beautiful song, I can only imagine it as a video clip, also Say is one song I would love to send her, she bottled it all up and she never said the words I know she needed to say.. Well done John
totally head over heels in love with a blonde redneck | Reviewer: Freya Johnson | 4/25/10
this song plays for how my redneck crush and his totally non redneck cheating girlfriend's relationship is going. She can't even look at him while they're slow dacning, and the dude thinks she truly loves him. She cried when he was bad mouthing her after finding out she'd cheated on him.
absurd | Reviewer: jessica | 3/26/10
Yeah, u know what. This song means kinda absurdness of these loving-inside moment. I've through that moment w my crush, we were so much in love but we're too afraid for letting out our true feelings. It sounds like "can't seem to hold u like I want to, so I can feel u in my arms". And we were loosin up our communication, we've just seen each other & go. See then go. tragic

slowdancing. | Reviewer: Ruby | 1/8/10
Yeah. This song reminds me of my relationship with my ex boyfriend. Things went pretty bumpy, then I cheated on him half way through the relationship with someone else, we got back together afterwards. I don't think I really loved him as much as I would of liked, though on august 27th of last year he broke my heart for someone else. I guess I got what was coming to me all along. I spose We wern't meant for each other, but beneath all the lies and misfortune, he was just somthin else, ya know? I don't think i'll ever forget him.

Its not a silly little moment. Its not the storm before the calm. This is deep and dying breath of this love we've been working on.... I think this means that a break up isn't a gateway to peace straight away. Its not gonna be calm straight away. Its a deep experience and a part of you feels like it literally is dying. You can feel the heaviness of the whole situation when you take that last breath. Its not a silly insignificant moment. It shouldn't be overlooked, ultimately it will affect you for the rest of your life.

I am in love with this song. I can't stop listening to it and I can't stop crying. Me and my boyfriend broke up to only get back together... then he cheated on me. This song describes that inbetween stage perfectly. I tried so hard but I could see the end. That it wasn't gonna work. I could see he didn't want me. And he proved that through cheating on me. I expected to hold some hate towards him for that but I didn't. I was expecting it... I wanted to just freeze everything. Go back to the start. Im trying to keep my head up but I just can't. the line "go cry about it why don't you" hits me the hardest. Like you've tried everything you can given yourself completely but there is nothing left. All you can do now is cry. And that's what im doing.
beautiful pain. | Reviewer: ruu 3 | 9/21/09
this song is brilliant.... it gives the prefect picture of when a guy and a girl know things are gonna end.... and are trying to say their last goodbyes and take their last bow together.... its hell; but their slow dancing.. making the most of the time they have left... they know they're "goin down" but they're taking it peacefullly, like a slow death... it hurts so much to hear this song... after a year and a half he cheats on me and leaves me... we kind of had a moment like this..
