The Reviews about No Such Thing (page 1/ 6)
------ performed by John Mayer

What real world? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/3/09

This is perhaps my favorite song ever. I heard this song at such a young age, and then, I loved it because I loved the tune of it. So when I was feeling a little nostalgic a year or two ago, I revisited old songs and shows I listened to and watched in the early 2000's, and came across this masterpiece of masterpieces, "No Such Thing." Me, naturally being older, would listen to the lyrics because I knew I loved the song when I was younger and wanted to know exactly what I was listening to.

I was inspired.

This song was one of the things that taught me how to open up and just have a good time! Lighten up, there is no such thing as a real world! As a high school student, I feel privileged to listen to this kind of music, as opposed to a lot of the mainstream stuff out there now! Reality is different for everyone, so live yours to the fullest, because there's no such thing as a real world!

I can't even begin to explain the impact John Mayer has had in my life. Not just this song, but any Room for Squares song and more.

No, there is not such thing as a real world. :) | Reviewer: TaCo | 7/1/09

All through middle school, the world just seemed like torchure. Then I hit highschool and it was still bad. Then in second semester of my freshmen year, I made same interesting friends. And it was they that helped me realize that no one is normal. Nothing is real. I din't quite understand at first, it all seemed wrong to me, having grown up with a father to whom everyone thats not just like him is wrong. Off. This song helped explain things a bit. And boy, has life gotten a heck of alot more fun. :D

Thank you John! :) | Reviewer: Jordan | 6/17/09

I am a high school student who really spends too much time worrying about school. I've always strived to be 100% in everything, which gets really stressful. I am the typical "Straight A" good girl. Trust me,it's a really hard to role to play ALL the time. I love this song because it reminds me to just lighten up and have fun! School's not the most important thing in life. While most people in my high school are listening to meaningless junk, I love having the secret of John Mayer. He really speaks volumes through his lyrics! :)

An inspiration | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/28/09

For the longest time I've never known what to do with my life. It seems like I've been coasting through my entire life. I was 9 when I first heard this song and at that time it didn't mean too much to me. I'm currently a 17 year old dropout and I just heard this song for the first time in 8 years. It made me realize that I have the potential to be anything I wanna be, I can do anything I wanna do. So long as I'm doing what I love and I'm happy.

no such thing as the real world | Reviewer: j7k | 3/24/09

i just heard it again a few days ago and regret why i never hear this song during my high school years
my high school was so boring that i just came to school to sleep and eat,,,
if i had heard this song back then i would really run through the halls of my high school and scream at the top of my lungs,,,
hope this song could boost up my spirit in college

i like the words "there's no such thing as the real world"
it makes me think not to live my life so hard since i only have a short life, just enjoy it in my own way

life is a dance floor and God is the DJ

great song | Reviewer: too much stress | 3/12/09

i like this song because it goes against basically everything that my parents always say:"your education is the most important thing in your life. you have to do this and that to become successful. blah blah blah." the song, to me, is basically saying think outside the box. falling in line with everybody else is not always the best way to go.

love this much!! | Reviewer: schoolers | 3/4/09

john mayer can make everything which is usual become unusual!!
before i've heard this song, i relly feel terrible on school, bcos i felt that high school is not such as the best part of the life that everybody told me.
but after i hear this, i dont want waste my time to make my high school life usefull
i love to be a high school student and all happen in that
like john mayer so much!!

Still hiding up my sleeve.. | Reviewer: College | 2/1/09

To me, this song is about the celebration of life. Everyone, no matter your race, color, or creed, we all love a visionary. Someone with a dream. John Mayers touches on that in this song, that following a dream is worth more for the soul than money is for your pocket.

I am currently a 23 year old College student who is not excited about the idea of school. However, I am excited of what this will do for my dreams!!

Not at all cliche | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/27/08

Thank you Mayer, for that original, and in no way cliched message. The sheer profundity simply blows my mind. I am simply blinded by his insight. To think all I had to do was "be myself" and "follow my dreams". That man is a visionary genius

Plot it out in black and white | Reviewer: GK | 11/13/08

This song really hits home with me. No older person can really understand the reality of high school today. I'm in high school now, but I can remember back in middle school speakers would come to our class and talk about college and scholarships. Back when we were 12 or 13!

I live in a poor community, and basically you don't get to college unless you have a scholarship or a full-time job. My parents, teachers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, ALWAYS stressed how important college is. At the beginning of this year, that was my entire focus. I played tennis, joined two school organizations, did Speech and Debate, took every advanced course i could (each class involved about an hour of homework every night, and i had four classes a day!) and tried to keep a 4.0 GPA (straight A's). All because it looked good on college applications. I tried to balance that with a family life AND spending time with my friends, partying and stuff. And when I got my report card and saw I had one "B" I broke down. I cried thinking about how hard it apparently is to get a good scholarship, and how it's important to go to a great university, and how for the rest of my life I'll be preoccupied with success and money.

And then I thought of this song. I listened to it and I calmed down. There is so much pressure put on teenagers and at such a young age, to grow up and make bank. But listening to this song reminded me that I don't want to be some yuppie, someone who took "the so called right track". I want to be an artist, and even though the best of the best don't make much money, art is what I love. Hearing this song I know I will be alright "as long as I'm alive". I don't think John Mayer meant "alive" in the physical sense, rather the spirtual. As long as you keep your spirit hopeful and happy, you will be okay. But if you allow yourself to be weighed down with bills and expenses and finances and living in "the real world" then you lose. We have to "rise above" the day to day life, and think of something better. I LOVE THIS SONG! MY ANTHEM!! <33
