Life is inherently good but bad things do happen. He says it so elequently yet so simple, life isn't meant to be perfect. During hard times you have to get back on your feet. My favorite line is The circle of your friends will defend the silver lining, no matter how bad things seem they will help you look at the bright side.

I am only 11 and I freaking love this song. I understand most parts but not the silver lining part. Can anyone tell me what that means? I want to understand everything on the song cuz its soo good :)

i first heard this song the morning after my mom attempted suicide. this song is something that reminds me of her and i think it represents our situation perfectly. life can be hard but love can make everything okay again.....

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! Heard it at work and then got CD, awsome and inspiring and just a wholesome song. Great for when im riding my horse or sitting in the car. No wonder its on a cd of "somngs to make you smile" by far and beyond my favourite. Could listen to it every second of the day.

Just recently heard this song for the first time and it is so simple, honest, and up beat, without being cheesy. I love it. It reminds us that there will be bumps in the road, but we must enjoy the "heart of life" and never forget it when we are down. I love the words he used.

Is this guy not one of the best songwriters of all time? He strings a few simple words together ... which say things some of us spend a lifetime trying to figure out how to say. I can't stop listening to the Continuum cd ....

this song is just simply amazing. it makes you believe that everything is going okay and although there may be some down parts in your rollercoaster of a life, all in all its a good ride. john mayer is amazing.

A lot has been happening lately with my dad battling lung cancer, and this song put it all into words in such a simple, beautiful way. It could be applied to a lot of different situations in people's lives. John Mayer has a gift for songwriting. No fancy frills on this song. Just unadulterated life. And it will speak to you.

This song has changed my life. I have been in pain lately, jaded, thinking the world was out to get me after having been deceived badly by someone who I thought loved me. I was giving up, until I heard this song. The words are gorgeous. So true, and they hit right to the heart of me. The melody is beautiful, having a very Simon and Garfunkel feel to it I think. I am so happy that this song found me.
