The Reviews about Another Kind of Green (page 1/ 2)
------ performed by John Mayer

Another kind of green | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/3/2008

Everyone interprets songs differently. John Mayer is a great musician because he taps into the musician of his audience. Perhaps all he is saying is that people constantly move on bc they are in search of something better. Sometimes what you have is not perfect, but it's so close. Why would you move on? You're not the perfect hand, but I don't hit on 19.

JM is on the greener side | Reviewer: Mrs.Mayer | 4/14/2008

this definitely refers to the grass being greener on the other side. "you don't need to lose to know that you had it good" that refers to the girl leaving him and then coming back to him. She realized that she was on the greener side when she was with him after she left him. You see he's smart, he doesn't need to look for greener grass. He realizes that he is on the greener side with her so he "doesnt need another kind of green to know". I love you JM! So romantic <3

My Intro to Mayer | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/19/2008

At 50+ I have been fortunate to grow up with great artists and I am always looking for something new. I run into this song. Mayer takes the most powerful emotion and a situation that almost everyone can relate to. He then translates it to lyrics with complete color and delivers with music that hits with emotion and pure entertainment. Exploring his other songs, I am excited by his music and future potential of Mayer life experiences in musical form.

Grass is usually not greener | Reviewer: Phillip | 10/24/2007

This song is most definitly about staying with someone because he knows its good and not about envy this song is about a girl who hurt him and she left him only to realize he was right for her all along he knew the whole time how perfect they were:
So go and drift away from me
Adopt some new philosophy
That doesn't hold the two of us in mind
Move into someone else's place
Stare into some other's eyes
But slowly only come to realize

That you didn't need another kind of green to know

he's talking about how she will know like he does that even tho she thought the grass was greener and left him she will come back after she "slowly only comes to realize"

theres no envy here | Reviewer: taylor | 8/28/2007

there is no way he's talking about envy it doesn't even matter if the title is another kind of green. he's saying that nobody's perfect but he's found the person that he's been happiest with and doesn't want to risk losing that by tring to find someone even better.

disagree. | Reviewer: kk | 8/26/2007

this song is so NOT about envy. its about the grass is greener. why would "I don't need envy" or "another kind of envy" "to know im on the right side with you" make sense?

its all about the grass is greener. he doesn't need to break up and be with another person to realize he was right with her.

"you're not the perfect hand but i don't hit on nineteen"
thats alluding to blackjack by the way....

hes saying she's not perfect but he wouldn't risk her. think of the cards and it makes more sense. you dont want to ask for more cards when you have 19 which is a good hand just so you can try for the perfect hand but end up busting. it all ties in with the theme that he doesn't want to risk losing her for the more perfect girl he might find. he knows he on the right side with hher.

Actually.. | Reviewer: BC | 7/13/2007

It's not about the grass is greener, it's about having envy for something. Green for Envy. From that, you should put it together.

SO, this is obviously one of my favourite Mayer songs. I'm a huge Johnny fan so i instantly picked up on the "i know i might be anxious, but i'm still not crazy" lyric. For those other dedicated (and let's face it: obsessed) fans; you too may understand the link to his suffering of anxiety attacks. I read an interesting article about how he used to carry Xanax in his cargo pant pockets.

There's honesty in this song. I love it.

EG out.

The grass is greener with JMT | Reviewer: Brandie | 4/29/2007

No shit herb! haha.. I've loved John Mayer since no room for squares, and he is a prime example that one does get better with age. I love this song, but all of the songs he writes are amazing!

Review - Another Kind of Green | Reviewer: joe | 3/18/2007

I never paid attention to John Mayer until the JMT - Try! CD. These guys are awesome and 'Another Kind of Green' is a great example of that. Good lyrics, fantastic music...it doesn't get much better than that. This CD has made it into my permanent library. Makes me wonder what I've been missing all these years!?
