What a weird show! Who the hell knows whats this all about -- and I'm like the reviewer above, I can't quit watching it. The opening sequence is as good a video as I've ever seen for surf tho.
Another sign of Joe's brilliance & passion for TRUE humanity | Reviewer: Seven30 | 8/10/07
This song's message is SOOOOO powerful & relevant in any era (hopefully not the future...'cause as Joe says....the future is unwritten). Maybe one day we'll have a hive full of bees & plenty berries on the trees. God knows we lost another one with his passing. Cause like so many "Bees" before him ......HE WAS RIGHT!!!!
P.S. - Well put "Beach Boys for Christ".....Couldn't have put it any better. The show...like the song is absolutely brilliant. If you follow "John..." from the first episode, it is much easier to translate what John is saying. The show, like the song has a powerful message & it forces you to think, rather than have everything laid out for you. The cryptic dialogue can be interpreted by paying close attention. Also I believe some of what John is saying cannot yet be deciphered because I believe there is more to be revealed before it makes COMPLETE sense....but even then you can get the point of the message. In the meantime...I'm hanging on every word....because I WANT that message...it seems to be very important....LOL.
American icon.... | Reviewer: Dingus McNasty | 8/10/07
....yes, Strummer was British. But he did become something of an icon among Clash fans in the US.
Some of the confusion about it may stem from the term "Johnny Appleseed" which is an American folk tale.
The Clash were NOT an American icon! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/31/07
"The Clash was an American icon, but his later work revealed that he was obviously the driving force behind The Clash."
The Clash and Joe Strummer were British, D.F.!
Hoping to be happily surprised | Reviewer: KB | 7/30/07
I was drawn to this song from the opening credits to John from Cincinnati. I am not usually a rock fan, but this song is awesome, one that makes you think. I am hoping the case is the same for John from Cincinnati. I have watched from the beginning, but still have no idea what is going on. After further listening to this song I am very impressed, I hope this is the same for the show.
-Beach Boys for Christ | Reviewer: Gary Carter | 7/31/07
Johnny Appleseed has a rebellious paranoia that refers to the plight of today's average citizen...beset by spiritual crisis on every level, fucked by government and corporate greed...the corporate elite are the modern Pharisees...what would happen if Christ DID return? He'd have to be incredibly cryptic in order to fly below the radar of the establishment or he'd end up in Guantanamo. The puppeteers behind the likes of Bush could not afford anyone uniting people with miracles and truth. Power depends on fear and hatred, divide and conquer. How can the truth stand a chance against the hype and fear perpetrated by corporate media machine? If people ever needed saving, it's us.
That's where the brilliance of this show lies. John as a savant Christ is impervious to social and political corruption, all the while bringing grace and confusion to the people around him with the white light of truth. Surfing as metaphor for unified purity and innocence.
So the song is perfect...like Christ, rebellious and cryptic in lyric, harmonious and innocent in tune....the chorus is resonant of the Beach Boys, forever linked to both innocent longing and surfing.
What going on with John from Cin | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/30/07
Why would they choose this song for the theme of the show other than theres something funny going on with the government and the death of all these bees this year? i still don't get why they can't talk normal now instead of acting like they was transported from deadwood to the beach in california either? So i'm just lost on this stupid show i should stop watching it i only understand half of what being metaphorically said all the time. Gets on my damn nerves but still some reason i tune in every sunday probably cause i was mad at the death of the deadwood series.

The Clash was an American icon, but his later work revealed that he was obviously the driving force behind The Clash.
We lost this beautiful poet too soon...isn't that always how it goes?
Wow | Reviewer: chris | 7/4/07
I looked this up after hearing it on HBO's John from Cincinnati, I couldn't understand all the lyrics at first, but once you know what it's saying you can hear it. Great song, hidden gem, I am sure we'll here it a lot more with its newfound exposure.
