What it says so perfectly fit the times, then and now - you can't live with it but you can't live without it. Balin as poet chronicler took the time to look around once in a while, and his scribblings in this case leave us with a vivid tapestry of easy seduction by the shiniest object in view. Not exactly a Barry McGuire song, but Marty is nonetheless sending us an urgent warning to look deep inside the things we're attracted to. So easily manipulated are we.
