I agree, it is called The letter it was written by Wayne Carson Thompson and released by the Box Topsin 1976. It was covered by Joe Cocker on his Mad Dogs and English Men album in 1970. The album and this song were featured on film when they covered The Mad Dobs and English Men Tour cocker made of the States in (I think 1971 or 1972) There were a miltitide of stars on that tour with him - nicked this list from another site. Leon Russell: guitar, piano; Don Preston; guitar; Bobby Keys: tenor saxophone; Jim Price: trumpet; Chris Stainton: (piano, organ); Carl Radle: bass instrument; Chuck Blackwell: drums, percussion; Jim Gordon, Jim Keltner: drums; Bobby Torres: congas; Sandy Konikoff: percussion; Daniel Moore, Donna Weiss, Matthew Moore, Pamela Polland, Rita Coolidge, Claudia Lennear, Bobby Jones, Donna Washburn, Nicole Barclay: background vocals. I have to admit that I have the original, was only 17 at the time. Janis the Frog. x

Ths song is called The letter, was written by Wayne Carson Thompson, released by the Box Tops 1967. Covered by Joe Cocker in 1970. Featured on film of the The Mad Dobs and English Men Tour cocker made in US. (?1970 or 71). There were a miltitide of artists on that tour with him and the LP and film were recorded live. I have a list of artists if anyone is interested but will name Jim Keltner, Leon Russell, Bobby Keys and Rita Coolidge. I don't have a BOX Tops but I do have the live recording of the Cocker tour. I was 17 at the time. Janis the Frog. x
