My research indicates that Porter Wagoner was the first to record the song written by Joe Hays and Jack Rhodes. The song became identified with Wagoner and erroneusly attributed as the writer. It benefited Wagoner's singing career greatly.

It's a great song recorded by Porter Wagoner back in 1956. Jeff Buckley's cover version is slightly different as it is a cut down version, however more powerful than the original country music version. Every time I listen to this song it reminds me of my mortality and how great Jeff Buckley to render his version. I have chosen this song to be played at my funeral, and I have sung my own cover version. RIP Jeff..You are the man!!

In a nutshell what a fabulous version of this song. He had such a range that made this song so fantastic. Cash has it on kill bill also very good but, this song is made for someone with range.

The original was by Bob Marley. It's an excellent arrangement by Buckley though. Perfect.
