look people I've listened to alot of jayz's music and from my observation or synopsis
this guy is basically telling people he has (underworld ties) what does that mean he
is that guy with a six point pentagram and candles trying to summon some shit up in his basement.

the point Jay-z is tryin to make is simple. he is saying he cant believe in God because of the shit he witnessed in his life and where he was at living in the marcy projects in brooklyn. because of the environment he was in, he had to do these evil things to survive, but he doesnt regret it because he simply did what he had to in order to live. by saying he never prayed to God he prayed to Gotti is metaphorical. hes saying the shit john gotti did was something he could relate to and was more relevant than a religions teachings. he understands the fact that material things corrupt people (money, jewels etc) which is why he said his soul is possessed with D'evils diamonds and necklaces. you guys are thinking to literally which is making you miss the whole point of the song. this song is strictly about his life and what he went through and why he had to do the things he did

Secondly Jay-Z is speaking and reflecting on his life and how far he would go for the fame and the fortune.

Let's analyze...

In the first verse Jay-Z is basically talking about how he would get his fame and fortune in any means possible. He's talking about how his friends do it, how it's like making money on this streets. He basically says he knows every loophole in the book to get his money illegally or legally. The reference that he never prays to God But he prays to Gotti, is just a reference of how much he emulated people like Gotti who made money and recieved the fame as well.

Take the second verse for example where Jay-Z is reflecting on how he had a close friend, but grew apart when they both started making money. Out of revenge Jay-Z kidnaps his friend's girlfriend to find out how he's making all that money by using her. At the end of the verse Jay-Z sees the fear in the woman's eyes and how she wishes that Jay and her boyfriend were still close. Then Jay-Z feeling empathetic says to the woman that what he's doing will come back to him (karma) but for now it's D'evils. (The Evils of greed that's causing him to act in this way)

Finally in the last verse Jay-Z is blatantly clear. He speaks of The Evils and exactly what it did to him and that The Evils is in the form of diamond and lexuses. He speaks of how he changed from a nice regular kid in Junior High to this man who loves money. He won't cower to get his money.

So you see this song has nothing what so ever to do with the Illuminati or the Devil. He uses the Illimuniati and Secret Society as a metaphor for the greed that his consuming his life. As a intelligent rapper he doesn't blatantly tell you he's greedy, he skillfully masks it. But then most jut misinterpret what he is truly saying. If you were a true fan of hip hop and you were dissecting a rapper's lyrics you wouldnttake EVEr word that rapper said literally. There are underlying messages subliminal messages that the rapper hopes you figure out. Unfortunately for Jay-Z this world is to simple minded to look beyond the word Illuminati.

To all you who say that he doesn't believe in religion, what the hell does that have to do with him being apart of that illuminati. I would like to begin and say that everyone needs to ask God for insight. The music most people listen to is not of God, nor does it praise God. In the bible, it describes the mind as very corrupt, these are the same minds that each and every one of us have, just like Jay-z, who claims he's never even read the bible. He produces music, with his already corrupt mind, having no religion (does believe in Christians or Muslims) and speaks to the world. He claims he doesn't believe in religion because it separates people, but my question is shouldn't it? Shouldn't there be a separation between Good and Evil? Why should it be all combined, cause we are not all the same and not everyone has a kind heart. I believe he's trying to eliminate the fact that the devil exists and that the devil is for evil, destruction, murder, stealing, and many more. Which is not true. The devils biggest trick was convincing man that he didn't exist, and with jayz's attempt to establish that good and evil should be unified, is shown to me as he doesn't want the separation of people through religion to exist. I mean think about that..
