Level (or situation) # 1 is what causes the fight; something silly usually, the straw that broke the camels back. Level 2 is what the deeper meaning is of the fight what you are really arguing over, but this is precarious because it's easily overrun with passion and hate; easy to say things you regret. Level 3 is the effect this has on the friendship/relationship. We always say it was meant to be, but it was really how you handeled level 2 that gets you there. And level 4 is regret you feel after breaking up or fighting in an argument. Feeling bad for having said what you did. Very interesting song either way. It can absolutely be applied to that, but the amazing thing about this song is that you can really apply it to anything in your life. For example, I always connected number two to getting into graduate school, or something challenging like that.
