I just got out of a bad relationship, but I still love my ex more than anything. In this song it is clear that this relationship is over (in the essence that he has stopped writing her songs and books), but he knows that he cannot hide/contain his love for her. Even though he looks to his friends (the spaceman) to help him, he knows that he cannot contain his love, and ultimately will go back to his girl.
