personal interpretation of course... the woman king is god. we are the hindered mare she is trying to decide whether or not to put down. the age old dog is dogma, the hornet nest the congregation housed by the church. someday we may see god put her thumb down and weep over her children. she does not lose the battle, we do

holy crap | Reviewer: Ben | 6/30/2007
this is my favorite song ever. And i think you all know why, as many people said it before. I love the vocals in addition to all the points you all listed. Might actually be the one song i can listen to nonstop and never tire of. different scenes come into mind every time i listen to it, making it never get old.

awesom | Reviewer: Doug | 5/4/2007
Woman King is probably the best song on the EP. The rhythmic flow of the song coupled with the amazing imagery makes this arguably one of Iron and Wine's best.
Love it! | Reviewer: Keith | 1/30/2007
Yea, I agree with the person below me (or above). It is a very good song, amazing music and meaningfully lyrics; a rare combination.
medieval dystopia | Reviewer: astapen | 12/16/2005
A haunting, tribal beat with evocative lyrical imagery. Also, the idea of a woman king creates a world where women hold equal power with men, even though the woman king seems to lose her battle. I like it a lot.
