quite an iceberg | Reviewer: Matt Hassler | 10/31/07
if you look past the "nastalgia" inducing majority of the lyrics, you'll see that the end of every other verse and scattered throughout the song are allusions to Heaven and God. Sam Beam never states a positive or negative connotation, but the observations are chilling and wonderful. there is so much to this song, that i have analyzed it many times over and do not even begin to understand its depth... but maybe i'm diving too deep.

a boy i once knew got me addicted to this song in the summer of '06, as well as iron & wine in general. there's really no way to sum up everything i was feeling the first time he put this song on in his car one night... he said, "just listen to the words and the story... it makes you think of all these different memories," and that sums it all up. it's obviously a very personal song, with parts of it that only mr. beam knows the real meaning of, but it still takes you back somehow.
it's now my favorite song in the world.
Haunting & Beautiful | Reviewer: MyForeverHarry | 10/24/07
I heard this song on In Good Company. I love the movie; its simplicity, sweetness and 'humanness.' And then at the end of the movie, this song plays - and it just sums up the feeling I have about the movie. A friend downloaded the song for me and I have it in my laptop and my handphone. I listen to it before I go to sleep, when I wake up, on the way to and back from work. This song is so hauntingly beautiful. It'll probably end up one of my all-time favourites, like Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale and Eagle's Hotel California.

Eternal | Reviewer: John M | 6/24/07
As all of you, I also found this through the In Good Company film. This is one of those songs that will live on, that it will extend itself through time. It sweeps you, it humbles you, makes you cry, makes you love. Thank you Sam for such a creation, such contribution to us, the common mortals.

If you read this comment and if you know me, please, tell my kids to play this song when I'm gone. My son will play the guitar as if making love to "her " and my daughter will sing like a humming bird... And I will be reaching Heaven in Peace...

This song is haunting and evocative of adolesent memories. I sit and listen to it with tears streaming down my face and aching in my heart. The beauty that he taps into with this song is the real deal.

I found also that the movie, "In Good Company" was average, but the soundtrack is a nice culmination of genres. This song is a gem and the words are filled with longing. I can't get away from the melody so much that I had to own the movie soundtrack and an Iron and Wine cd.
A beautiful, haunting melody | Reviewer: Barbra | 5/30/06
I heard this song play at the end of a 2004 movie with Dennis Quaid in it and was so struck by it's melodic beauty that I wrote down the name of the artist and the song and went in search of the album. Unfortunately, I learned, to my dismay, that the song does not seem to appear on any of the three albums currently available by Iron and Wine.
The song is hauntingly beautiful in both its words and music. A lilting voice that cannot be easily pigeonholed in a particular genre, unless one creates a new genre entitled "great music". I recommend downloading both the music and the words.
