Time and all you gave | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/21/09

His old lover, who he neglected. It seems he was in it for the physical and didn't realize how much he loved her, because now he sees love. But, he was "a jerk who preferred the same". Maybe he didn't want a relationship? "Tugging your skirt singing please please please", obviously wanting only the physical aspect of the relationship. But now that she's gone, he realizes all he took for granted. He realizes she didn't ask more for him than his time and his loyalty. etc etc etc soooooooooooooo beautiful. I melt at his every word

The speaker sees love in his ex-partner's actions, but also in his cruelty and neglect. He punished her because he loved her. The irony is that he only "now" sees this.

Amazing that he was able to convey this dark and complex idea in such a brief song.

Regret is the heaviest burdain. NOW I see love. I love his song, and I think Sam Beam is such a talented artist. The way he words feelings is incredible, he makes me so sad and yet hopeful at the same time.

I think this is more a song of regret than anything. Retrospect indeed, but in a painful perspective. "Tugging at your skirt begging please please please..." In fact, it sounds just like a man...never realizing what he had until it's lost.

i love this song. what describes missing someone more beautifully than this? what describes retrospect appreciation more beautifully than this? sam beam's lyrics are always impeccably beautiful, always perfect.

I really like this song. I love Iron and Wine, because it's really good to listen to when you want to have a calm moment.
