the meaning of the lyrics are wierd, well i undertand it differently than u guys but ill explain it anyways. well its really about like ptostitues and sex and drugs u know crap like that. "all of you'er street light eyes wide on my plastic toys" mean that there are prostitues that are looking at him and there eyes are shining on his toys. "then when the cops closed the fair i cut my long baby hair" means when the cops came to close the fair he's baby hair fell off and the new hair started growing. when he says "have i found you flightless bird...or lost you american mouth" means that he has tried to find her, a prostitud he sleped with, and hasnt found her.
"now im a fat house cat nursing my sore blunt tong" means that he's trying to forget all the bad things he did, trying to clean everything he did wrong."watching the warm poissons rats..."means he's watching all these peaple getting druged.then everithing after that i dont gete it. and i LOVE this song too. your welcome if i did any help.

not only twilight | Reviewer: squish | 4/23/09

this song is amazing. it moves me. i want to take my boyfriend to learn the waltz for this song. i first got it off the twilight soundtrack, yes, but i rarely tie songs to movies. its just a moving song, i wish i knew what the lyrics really meant, because it sounds really deep.

let it speak to you (as an individual) | Reviewer: Lacee | 4/27/09

I really don't think this beautiful song needs to have a definite meaning - to the listener(s). I absolutely love this song and it speaks to me in so many different ways that I understand.

Let the song speak to you and you'll find your own interpretation(s) and understanding(s)...

Yes, I'm a new fan | Reviewer: Terah | 4/14/09

Yes, I'm sorry, I am yet another person who is going to tie Flightless Bird in with Twilight. Only to say that I first heard it on the movie, liked it, Fell in love with it, and now I cannot wait to go get some Iron & Wine cds. I wish I had heard of him before the movie, totally would've been my all time favorite. I gotta say Kristen Stewart has great taste, seeing as how she suggested Flightless Bird. They would've been crazy if they hadn't listened to her.

still.. | Reviewer: Denise. | 4/5/09

I still don't comprehend theses lyrics. I was starting to actually understand them, but the more I read peoples blog it confused me. is this song about politics? or true love? or growing old looking back at life, kinda of like a flash back? or is it about losing the one you love and you can't find her anymore? all in all, I love this song! I love the music and how it flows. it kind of gets me in a sad mood though, makes me want to cry. actually... at the end of the movie when Edward and Bells are dancing and this song starts playing it does make me tear a little. it just really makes me relize how I should appreciate all the ones I love in life.

Twilight | Reviewer: Kate | 4/3/09

Everyone knows it wasn't written FOR twilight, that doesn't mean it can't go well with the movie. Just because people heard it because of the movie doesn't mean they think it was written for the movie.

Awesoome | Reviewer: Jess | 4/3/09

I thought this song was great the first time I heard it. Then, I saw the lyrics and it really fooled me, but I still try to sing it and I love it. I think in the Breaking Dawn movie, this song should play during the wedding, or when they dance at the reception. This song is very good, and I think this band should be a lot more famous.

RE: Miyoung | Reviewer: Kenitha | 4/2/09

I've heard this song on wilight movie :$ but indifferent to that, I love when they start singing "Now I'm a fat house cat" and Miyoung explanation make so much sense, thank you.
Anyway I really like songs when lyric is not explicit and has beautiful melody, like this song. Love twilight series too xD

Not for Twilight | Reviewer: Miyoung | 3/14/09

Sadly for you twilight fans, this song was written way before twilight ever came out. So, this song was NOT written for twilight and has nothing to do with your beloved bella and edwards.

Iron and Wine wrote this song when Bush was re-elected. In a nut shell, its a broken hearted love song to america. About losing innocence (I cut my long baby hair) and searching for the american dream, but realizing it doesn't exist. (Flightless bird). Then he presents a fat house cat that nurses his sore blunt tongue which has been cut by society.

Hum... wrong lyrics... | Reviewer: lk | 3/14/09

It's probably "big billed loon," which is a North American diver bird. It goes through a flightless phase some time in mid-winter... "going down" probably because some populations have disappeared. The narrator seems to describe how, as a child, he used to dive in the water next to this bird, which eventually disappeared, so he went to look for it. The rest of the lyrics, I'm not too sure about...
