This is perhaps the greatest metal song ever written from the lyrics and singing to the constant shredding throughout. This song still gives me chills when i listen to it! I don't even want to listen to the Cradle of Filth one because I know nobody can do it anywhere near as good as Iron Maiden did. ROCK ON!

This is a very epic song. It has a catchy melody, a heavy sound, and epic and deep lyrics. It also explains the answer to the question "Why does God let bad things happen to people love Him?" He lets it happen because in the long run, it doesn't matter. People who love Him will have an eternal Afterlife in a city that will fall down from Heaven, which is of greater importance than our mortal lives in this terrible world.
True Metal | Reviewer: Adam | 3/20/08
this is real metal. not hard rock, not screamo, not hardcore punk. this is what metal IS. it makes you feel like your the one getting marched out to a noose. it makes you think about whats being said "the guards march me out to the courtyard,
"Somebody cries from a cell "God be with you".
If there's a God then why does he let me go?"
So True. god cant help you

One of the bests songs ever, that keeps the meaning of searching the roots of everithing, Much million times better tha every piece of actual Hiphop, pop, rap, regeton and other SHISE music. I went to see them also. The Band is still one of the rock legends and is never going to be overpassed. Metal must and will survive and this song is the emblem.

I agree with almost all of you. This song MAKES you become the narrator....it is YOU marching out to the gallows and being fucking torn up internally. I'd give anything to be able to write lyrics like these. Harris/Dickinson are the Dylan of Metal.
One more reason: why they're the best Metal Band. | Reviewer: xbsjames@yahoo.com | 1/9/08
An almost perfect arrangement of vocals, lyrics and instruments. Dickinson boldly display his impressive singing ability and range, and it pours out with passion and raw power.
Damn it is a F-ing Great Song, arguably one of the top-five best of the Genre.
TOLOTG,
PS, The Cradle of Filth's version is not bad; it is what it is, a cover and I respect their homage to Maidens.

in my opinion the maiden covers my cradle of filth are sucky. siniging through the whole track in one tone is not what i was exepting. maiden rocks!

Hands down for me the best Heavy Metal song ever. A great new live studio version of it is available on itunes as part of A Matter Of Life & Death.
This is what makes Heavy Metal for me. Back in the day 'they' through everyone into that category including GNR, AC/DC, etc. Some good bands, but NOT Metal.
The whole thing blows me away: presentation, lyrics, progressions of bass & guitar, Dickinson air raid vocals. High caliber, Up the Irons!
breathtaking | Reviewer: Agustina | 10/22/07
this song it's just the incarnation of good heavy metal. Man, guitar is perfect, very emotinal and darl, though really powerful and crazy. The voice is just amazing, and the lyrics are so well written...
sick song | Reviewer: TheManimal | 10/16/07
i wouldn't say this is the best heavy metal song ever, becuase the lines of heavy metal go all over the place nowadays. but i would deffinatly put it in the top 5.
I'm not gonna lie though, i really like the Cradle of Filth Version of this song

Wow, THis song blows my mind, It shows people what metal really is; it isn't some chump from cradle of filth ruining it, at all, isit?

Best heavy metal song ever. Yes, it tops Master of Puppets easily. Great lyrics, great melody, amazing singing, esspecially at the end.
Ultimately, The Best. | Reviewer: Inviisii | 7/9/07
Such deep meaningful lyrics really puts the image and feeling into your head, the greatest song ever!
Great cover art too!

This song is amazing. Forget the cover by Cradle of Filth, the Iron Maiden version is the best. The lyrics are unforgettable. Best Iron Maiden song, best song period.
