E=mc^2
E=energy, m=mass, c=speed of light
The equation describes the relationship between mass and energy, and conversion of mass to energy. Basically, your finger nail could level a city block if its energy could be harnessed.

The song is a reference to the detonation of the first atomic bomb. E=mc2 is Einstein's formula for his theory of relativity. The reference to Robert is of J Robert Oppenheimer, who led the Manhattan Project. The detonation of the bomb at the Trinity site had one person say, "it looked brighter than a thousand suns". The book of the same name is probably what led to the writing of the song! GREAT SONG, by the way!

Yes to people that don't know where the formula comes from, means energy basically, I'm not to sure, I've been thinking about this song and I can't decide weather or not he's stating god's real or fake, I also think hes talking about evolution maybe and how we've basically made this world into a living hell and we're killing ourselfs everyday ( best line in the song;;; Raise a city, build a living hell Join the race to suicide Listen for the tolling of the bell) also
XXXAtom seed to nuclear dust is rivenXXX is wrong its !!! at a siege a nuclear gust is driven!!!

I love the song, the only thing that gets me everytime which sort of makes me wrinch is the e = mc^2 line.

Bruce never sung any better "until" powerslave? This was 22 years after powerslave. :P
This would probably be one of my favorite songs on the album if it wasn't so repetitive with the "Out of the darkness, brighter than a thousand suns" bits.
