Another brilliant song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/3/09
Another song which expresses Brandon's concern with being an individual and thinking for oneself instead of following the herd and surrendering your individuality. The gift that is sometimes an enemy is the gift of freedom, which too many people willingly give up, probably because with it comes responsibility, and that is just too hard for a lot of people to deal with. The idea that somebody could interpret this song as being about anal sex is just INSANE and incredibly stupid. I agree with meh-- what kind of person comes to such an idiotic conclusion first??? (Or at all, for that matter!) The answer: somebody whose mind is in the toilet! Anybody who truly appreciates Brandon's lyrics knows there is a great deal of sophistication in them. That particular reviewer sounds like a cretin.
that guy is gay | Reviewer: Eddie | 2/2/09
Yo don't be hating on brandon and expressing your own insecurities over top of brilliance like burying a torch in shit. Of course it's not gonna burn now asshole you defiled it. How can you enjoy a good song that's positive and uplifting if all you can see is a a bunch of sodomistic defacation floating through your head...maybe, then the listener will begin to feel gay just for listening, thus he has been infected by your worthless self deprecation and misery, that you so happily shared in your loneliness. Get a life. Everyone else, ENJOINCUBUS!! (somebody once made me feel this way by saying that shit and it ruined incubus for me for a while, but now I see the light... they really just hated they're self)
meaning | Reviewer: Milind | 5/10/08
basically i think this songs tells us not to take things for granted...we may not realise that what we have right now is a privelege..and many people might not have what we have in their lifetime...you can take the example of privelege...education is a privelege..in third world countries 50% to 60& of the population are illeterate..think abt that...
wtf? | Reviewer: that chick over there | 4/19/08
it has nothing to with anal sex. thats just about the stupidest thing ive ever heard.
its pretty much saying that he was born with freedom and now hes stuck in line waiting for something to happen that probably never will so he has to get out and go into the world and live his life.
really sad | Reviewer: -meh- | 1/2/08
well for one yes it is a great song and for 2 it does make ya think about the regular life of crappy boredom most people live in (sadly enough im one of those people) but i am wondering what kind of person do ya have to be for anal sex to come to mind first thing? i mean theres just something wrong there (im refering to one of the above reviews btw if its not there ne more for some reason thank god)

This song is such a great example of the spirit of Incubus. This song inspires listeners to break out of the monotony and find their own path. Lyrically Brandon brilliantly ties his words to the music to make you feel like your a part of a movement of individualism. Awesome.
hidden message.. | Reviewer: Danger HxC | 5/4/07
now, i've been thinking about this alot, and i feel this song is about anal sex...
"Isn't it strange that a gift could be an enemy?
Isn't it weird that a privilege could feel like a chore?"
i think right there brandon is talking about his addiction to anal sexx. it is a gift, but now he is addicted to it, constantly wanting more and more asshole to rock. he finds it weird because it was a privilege and now, everytime he has sex, either him, or the other person wants anal.
"Maybe it's me, but I'm sick of wasting energy.
Maybe if I look in my heart I could find a backdoor.
(Find yourself a backdoor.)
I see you in line, dragging your feet
you have my sympathy"
he's saying here that he's tired of just wanting anal sex...he wants somethin more or someone new possibly...so when he's saying find yourself a backdoor, he wants to find new assholes to rock!! and with i see you in line..he's saying that yeah, if he were a chick, he would do anal with himself as well, cuz he knows he is hot shit!
this is just a theory thogh..
TURN IT UP YO | Reviewer: ANDREW LANGDON | 4/6/05
THIS SONG IS IN MY OPINION AMONG THE GREATER SONGS FROM INCUBUS. SWEAT INTRO AND HIGH ENERGY THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SONG. MAKES ME WANT TO ROCK OUT!!! 10 OUT OF 10
