Me and this girl went out and before she was my bext friend but the minute my lips touched hers, it just didn't work, i thought it would but it didn't, but i kept lying to myself ntelling myself that it was right and i went through a lot of messed up stuff with myself, in the end this song explains that as friends we were great but as more, we were just like oil and water, now I found the sugar to my koolaid, a beautiful new girlfriend who works, thank you incubus for helping me let go

I love this song so much the very beginning about mixing oil and water explains me and my boyfriend so much. Right now we are going through a rough spot that i dont know if we're going to get out of and i've been listening to this and Better Than Me by Hinder because they explain us perfectly!

Some songs perfectly capture special moments. "Oil and Water" captures that moment where two who really want it to work come to the inevitable conclusion together that it won't. The music and vocals capture that attempt to keep it under control, but the emotions just erupt from underneath to an overwhelmingly sad and beautiful crescendo.
