Besides the obvious, I was able to interpret this song after a certain incident. I'm stuck between choosing a girl who is leading me on, telling me to wait for her...(coercing me to dance) but along comes this girl who is a bigger bang, someone I can share the view with. I really liked the first girl, but this new girl has shown me what a bonfire truly is. So, for me, the inertia mentioned in the song was the false movement or feelings I had for one girl and the bigger bang is the true relationship that you've been searching for. This new girl shows deep interest in me and is honest with herself and me...the lit path that eluded me. The speaker has obviously had multiple bangs, but where is the big one? He doesn't want one bang after another, he's looking for a human being, like I am. You can't fall in love with someone's promise of starting a relationship...you have to have a real person to love. So, I just wanted to share my revelation that I had with this song and it really struck a chord for me twice...rare for any song to do, truly. I guess it was the drowning bass that overshadowed the guitar and almost everything else. But i guess i had my speaker system all wrong. He feels isolated, closed off and deadened emotionally, but he wants desperately to change that, to be able to love again.
