screwed up | Reviewer: jordan | 8/5/07

This song is me, and i am in the same position... I broke up with my ex and have regretted it for the past year....
most of you have it wrong when you look at this line
"Then again, you're always first when no one's on your side
But, then again, the day has come and I want off that ride."
It means that it doesnt matter who your with when you still regret breaking up with the one girl that was right for you but wont take you back, no one is ever good enough for you.. And the day has come and you want off the ride of comparing every woman you meet to the true love that you screwed up that wont take you back....

So good it hurts | Reviewer: Ryan | 6/16/06

Yet another excellent song from one of my favorite bands of all time. I've recently been through a breakup and can identify 100% with this song. As for my personal ideas of what he means between the two lines in the chorus...:

"Then again, you're always first when no one's on your side"
-Most of us will try and justify and qualify the break-up, as a way of holding back the tears and sometimes coming on as, "Oh, really? I don't care, I'm better off without you!" This line is his way of saying something positive about his situation after the break-up, but...

"But, then again, a day will come when I want off that ride."
-He'd rather be happy then right. He knows that, no matter how much he tries to hide, he will always/eventually remember what he's lost and he doesn't want to stay alone, even if he's "always first".

The last line of:
"But, then again, the day has come and I want off that ride."
signifies that he's saying, "To hell with my pride, I still love you, please forgive me."

Music has a funny way of speaking so much more than simple words.

It's an amazingly deep song...the beginning is instrumental is great.
The lyrics are really good too...he sings it like he means it and the lyrics have meaning too.
Really good.

I love the song but I wonder about those people who did break up with someone, regretted it and actually tried to get back with the person. I doubt any did, even whoever wrote the song (I assume Brandon) I wonder if that's the meaning of his last line, "The day has come.." rather than the previous lines "The day will come." The line that I really don't get, is "But then again, you're always first when no one's on your side" Who's you, first in what, and who's side is this person not on. And I also assume the "ride" is the relationship. I've tried to figure it out, but if anyone could tell me, that would be great.

i love this song so much but wondering what is that instrument in the beginning of the song...kinda like a muted violin...or something..ok im not very instrumental but seriously what is it....

Brandon sings this song like he means it. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/24/04

It has what seem to be simple lyrics, and what seems to be a simple song, but it's much deeper. You have to listen to the tiny nuances in the song to fully appreciate it. If you've ever broken up with someone and regretted it, you will identify with this song. AWESOME SONG, awesome song...
The instruments even change with the different tones of the song. It's just a great song.
