amazing song. | Reviewer: mia j | 12/2/08
i guess it helps to understand it of youve been through it before. the guy and the girl are talking- the girl says something she's been wanting to say for a while, something about the guy- and it hits him hard. he starts getting all defensive, so it turns into a fight and he threatens to leave her- something he's never done before. as the song goes on she begs for him not to leave, but she knows either way shes losing him. slowly he's been drifting apart from her, but still she doesnt want him to throw what they have. she wants to fix things but i think he's made up his mind that he's done.
Beautiful. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/22/08
Personally I think it's about a relationship with someone with a mental illness.
"I know what you're thinking,
But darling you're not thinking straight"
and
"I'm losing you, I'm losing you
Trust me on this one
I've got a bad feeling"
As I am someone who has had experience with mental illnesses it very much sounds like it's a story of a girl who's said something and set the man off in an episode..
Just the way her wording is sounds like responses to someone with maybe Bipolar or schizophrenia? Just a guess.
It's a beautiful song, and can be interpreted many different way which makes it personal on different levels for many people. Imogen is brilliant. I would love to discuss the meanings of all her songs with her - it would be so interesting to see her original meaning and interpretation.
beautiful abuse. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/8/08
this song is about an abusive boyfriend or husband. listen to the words it makes sense, and if you listen closely in the background there is yelling/screaming. how could a song about such a horribly thing be so beautiful? i love imogen heap.

After reading many of the comments, i still dont know what this song is about, but thats what makes it so good, the mystery of not knowing. Alot of of the ideas where really good tho, and sounded right, but really who knows. The one about the guy driving drunk, after a break, kinda fits this, but pretty much every situation can, like me and my friend got into a fight, and i must have listened to this song 100 times, it just has so much meaning behind it. Anytime i am upset about something or i just need to think, i always end up turning this song on. Its just an over all amazing song.

This song is sooo AMAZING.
i love it soo much.
it's so powerful it makes me think of everything!
i just want to scream it
it's a great thinking song.
i'm guessing the song is about a relationship that isnt working out... but she likes the guy but isnt quiet sure if the guy likes her.. or he's trying to leaving her like when it "it's not even late out but u have somewhere to be"
it's a awesome song :D
*Hauntingly Beautiful* | Reviewer: Brittany | 10/10/08
I'm not really sure what I think this song is about. I think it *could* be about a suicidal boyfriend (or a close family member or friend) who's spiraling out of control after a tragedy. I guess I'm drawing that conclusion from "I know what you're thinking, but darling you're not thinking straight. Sadly things just happen we can't explain..."
Some of the lyrics also make it sound like he might be a drug addict and she's afraid that he's killing himself with his addiction. When she talks about how he's scaring her and that she's losing him, it just sounds to me like it could be referring to his addiction turning him into a stranger and taking over his life, ripping them apart.
What I love most about this song is that it really is open to interpretation. Anyone who is hurting and facing problems with someone they love can listen to it and it will somehow speak to them and relate to their situation. It's really beautiful.
A ver unique song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/3/08
I admire imogen very much ..
it seems to me that there could be many different story lines to this song ...
it is a wonderfully disturbing, spine chilling song that makes you question the story..
my opinion that it is most likely a disorted relationship somehow , where it gets to the point when some one is almost about to comitt suicide somehow..
i love imogen and i think that this is a beautiful and a very meaaning full song
xx
cheers

I think this song is really powerful in what its meaning is.
The song is abut a relationship that is ending, but the guys takes it much harder than the girl does. the guys takes it out on leaving but he is drunk, so the girl say " just put back the car keys or someone is gonna get hurt" She wants to work thing out so she says " sit down and come around i need you now, we'll work things out together...we are getting no were tonight. now sleep i promise it will all seem better some how in time" the guy is leaving but it's not even light out. she has a bad feeling about him leaving, but he leaves anyways and when you hear SMASH it is him committing suicide in his car
Abusive Boyfriend. | Reviewer: Melody | 8/21/08
This song is simply brilliant.
I love it.
Imogen Heap is by far the greatest artist out there.
But I think what she is talking about is an abusive boyfriend.
Cause like, when she says "smash", I think she is referring to him hitting her, and then when she says "you're scaring me", it's because he's acting as though he's about to hit her or something.
The other possibility is a drunk boyfriend.
Either way, this song is completely amazing!
