This song takes my breath away and I think it is deep and meaningful. We may not understand this song, but Imogen does, and I'm sure that she wrote this song for herself and it isn't just a song about a random series of events. However the trippiness isn't achieved just by the variance in dynamics. The chord progressions, using strange minor identities is what really gives this song merit and genius. What I feel obligated to say is that perhaps there is no true meaning. Even if Imogen Heap did have a specific event in mind when writing the song, I believe that we are better off not knowing what that event was because it would diminish the ambiguous mystique that makes the song what it is. With all that being said, Hide and Seek is one of few modern songs. It can completely change one's mood and make the listener ruminate over the songs perfection, a distinct quality rarely found in today's generation of record-label pawns and rappers that glorify the rape and murder of innocents.
