The Reviews about Hide And Seek (page 20/ 85)
------ performed by Imogen Heap
Emotional | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/4/08
If an artist can sing with that emotion and passion, it is incredible. This song takes my breath away and I think it is deep and meaningful. We may not understand this song, but Imogen does, and I'm sure that she wrote this song for herself and it isn't just a song about a random series of events. There is a strong, deep, emotional, powerful meaning. Possibly this all happened to her, but I know that she must of had a reason to write this song and share the passion with the rest of us. We may never find out what Imogen was thinking when she wrote this, but we will always know it is amazing and simply...
beautiful

Okay, obviously everyone's interpretation of this song is going to be different.
Mine--however--is that this is in the mindset of a serial killer. They don't know consciously, but subconsciously they are questioning the authority.
The symbolism of hide and seek is correlating to the game. When I read the lyrics and listen to the song. The first verses seem to correlate with the individuals who are victim. Then she sings of this game hide and seek, then continues into how the family is taking this:
Oily marks..... fingering printing the houses for evidence where pleasureable events once took place, now being replaced with this disturbing thoughts.
Then she continues to go one about the game of hide and seek.
The best part is the 'mmmm... whatcha say.....'
I think that is the fight between the killers conscience.
Then it continues to talk about the serial killer and how he goes about it time after time and doesn't really care about the consequence
Hm. | Reviewer: Luci | 6/26/08
Ah, this is the song which brought me and my then boyfriend now fiance back together.
To me this song is based on the realisation of a lost relationship or something along those lines anyway.
where are we?
what the hell is going on?
- Cofusion, inevitably part of a bad break up.
the dust has only just begun to form
crop circles in the carpet
sinking feeling
- Something that was once there has now gone, and left a mark where it was, followed by sadness.
spin me round again
and rub my eyes,
this can't be happening
when busy streets a mess with people
would stop to hold their heads - heavy
- Cannot comprehend what is happening, and the act of holding your head in your hands when your upset.
oily marks appear on walls
where pleasure moments hung before the takeover,
the sweeping insensitivity of this still life
- Oily marks perhaps where a picture once was?, happy times once were, now gone. The understanding of life somewhat.
Mmmm whacha say,
Mmmm that you only meant well?
well of course you did
Mmmm whacha say,
Mmmm that its all for the best?
Because it is
Mmmm whacha say?
Mmmm that it's just what we need
you decided this
whacha say?
Mmmm what did she say?
- Its All for the best? its what we need?
[time apart, All for the best]
ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs
speak no feeling no i don't believe you
you don't care a bit,
you don't care a bit
- The feeling of being left behind or forgotten, like the person didnt care.
ect.
I prefer to breadkdown a song into parts, rather than look at the whole.
my interpretation may not be right.
But hey =]
GOOD SONG.
Trippy... And musically remarkable. | Reviewer: jay | 6/20/08
This song is the shit when your high. You get embraced and raptured in the fat chords created by the thick electronic sounds. However the trippiness isn't achieved just by the variance in dynamics. The chord progressions, using strange minor identities is what really gives this song merit and genius. I also enjoy how the song is primarily freely conducted, not necessarily following
any kind of time signature or meter; its as if the notes are being felt rather than played. I love it, and its really the gateway song that led me to explore more of her music, as well as her career in Frou Frou. Everything is so versatile. Dont try and give her a genre, because like her music, she doesn't conform to anything.
just grateness! | Reviewer: fate | 6/20/08
oh,well i'd like to begin with clearify to who ever wrote that rap is about rape and murders
that he or she could be wrong, some of the subjects that they discuss (rappers) are oftenly interesting and real. And for imogen, i can only hope that she'll continue doing music, the lyrics of hide and seek are grate!
O my gosh | Reviewer: Monica | 5/30/08
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is my favorite song in the whole world
this song really stands out and is so different than what is coming out lately. The omation and deepness of the lyrics is what really made me fall in love with this song. I could seriously sit in my chair listening to this song just thinking about it and how it relates to me. Personally, I think the interpretation of this song is completely from your view point so I'm not going to explain what my interpretation of the lyrics are. I would like to hear what this song was truly inspired by, but that is it. That is one of the reason this song never gets old; everytime I hear it I think of another meaning. I could go on and on and on about this song so i will stop now.
-MMMMMM

Well I think this song can have no meaning or it might mean an affair, I was reminded of World War 2, and even Iraq a little. But it all depends on how you can interperate it. Heap might not even know what exactly the song stands for. She could have just wrote she felt at that time. The thing is if it means alot to other people its a very good song.

This song is amazin
And the meaning is of course about an affair.
It's quite simple Oily marks on the wall.. = pictures after taken down ..
Trains Sewing Machines = Toys of children... trians for boy sewing machines for girl
And it mentions "she" at the end of MMmm whatcha say part.

Of course the sad melody will remind us of the war in iraq and 9/11 but thats just because of our generation and what we apply the sadness to.

Wow | Reviewer: Westy | 5/22/08
This song is amazingly touching and just hearing it makes me wanna like cry. The Song is very helpful to sad and hurtful moments my favorite part is Mm wacha say.. till the end. The Music and lyrics of this song are also unbelieveable.
Searching for Meaning --- Hide and Seek | Reviewer: Mandrake Strangelove | 5/24/08
I've read through this page and seen the ruminating speculations as to the songs true meaning. What I feel obligated to say is that perhaps there is no true meaning. Even if Imogen Heap did have a specific event in mind when writing the song, I believe that we are better off not knowing what that event was because it would diminish the ambiguous mystique that makes the song what it is.
With all that being said, Hide and Seek is one of few modern songs. It can completely change one's mood and make the listener ruminate over the songs perfection, a distinct quality rarely found in today's generation of record-label pawns and rappers that glorify the rape and murder of innocents.
