It sounds like the singer is confused and hurt by whoever the girl is that he is singing to. She is not committing to him and to the relationship ("You never gave us a chance to be"). He is tired of the current state of the relationship, because it is static. Every time he tries to get close to her she turns away from him, and he knows he hasn't done anything horribly wrong. The only explanation is that she no longer loves him, but she won't tell him and she won't break it off. That is why he wants her to "tell him the truth." He is not over their relationship, otherwise he would have ended it, and he hopes the issues can be remedied. Explanation | Reviewer: Denise | 9/2/07 I love this song too!! I read the review above and just wanted to discuss what i thought the song was about. I think this song is about someone who is afraid of commitment, not that they are hard to satisfy but just afraid. They're afraid that if they got into a relationship with someone it would end horribly or that person may lose interest in them, cheat on them or abandon them. And sometimes when someone is that afraid all the things that that person has done for you subsides. It's kind of forgotten how much someone has done for you. It's kind of like it doesnt matter what someone has done for you because people change most times in a blink of an eye. For instance, a man could have taken care of a women that he loved, for 10 years. Like brought her clothes and took her out to eat, helped her pay a couple of bills, brought her a house and so on but then he sees something that he thinks is better. And ends up being unfaithful to her and leaving her for someone else, after 10 long years, taking everything with him, leaving her with nothing. By then, all that that man has done for that women means nothing at all. So that is the meaning i got from that song.
